Which drugs are in conflict with the "aura" of the popular sauce-flavored latte?

The recent popularity of Ruimao has given coffee lovers another Chinese choice. Holding a cup of coffee has become a standard for many office workers, which not only helps to refresh the mind and maintain work efficiency, but is also a fashion.

Data shows that nearly 60% of white-collar workers drink three cups of coffee a week, and the per capita coffee consumption in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen is already on par with that in Japan and the United States.

But did you know that if you are taking certain specific medications, you should be careful when drinking coffee because the caffeine in coffee may interact with the medication. On the one hand, some medications can enhance the effects of coffee, and on the other hand, coffee can inhibit the absorption of certain medications.

01

Anti-osteoporosis drugs:

For example, the caffeine in coffee can reduce the bioavailability of alendronate by about 60%, seriously affecting its efficacy. Therefore, patients with osteoporosis are advised to reduce or avoid coffee consumption while taking this drug.

02

Bronchodilators : such as theophylline. Theophylline drugs and caffeine have the same metabolic pathway in the human body. Using the two together will hinder the normal metabolism of theophylline, increase the concentration of theophylline in the blood, and increase the risk of adverse reactions.

03

Oral contraceptives:

Oral contraceptives such as norethindrone compound tablets will slow down the metabolism of coffee in the body, thereby increasing the concentration of coffee, which can easily lead to uncomfortable symptoms such as palpitations, nausea, and dizziness.

04

Antipyretic analgesics:

For example, acetaminophen and ibuprofen can irritate the gastric mucosa and even cause gastrointestinal ulcers. Caffeine can increase gastric acid secretion and hypersecretion of gastric glands, which can irritate the gastric mucosa. Drinking coffee after taking these drugs may aggravate gastric mucosal damage, and in severe cases may even cause gastric bleeding, gastric perforation and other dangers.

05

Sedative hypnotic drugs:

Such as diazepam, alprazolam, etc., this type of drug has an inhibitory effect on the central nervous system, because caffeine can cause excitement of the nerve center, thereby weakening the sleep-inducing effect of sedatives and hypnotics.

06

Thyroxine:

For example, caffeine can increase intestinal motility and shorten the time thyroxine stays in the intestine, thus reducing its absorption rate by about 55%, seriously affecting the efficacy of the drug. Therefore, if you are using levothyroxine and you love coffee, you should try to extend the time interval between drinking coffee and taking the drug.

07

Quinolone antibiotics:

Such as norfloxacin, this type of drug can inhibit the metabolism of caffeine in the body, prolonging its elimination half-life, which can easily cause symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea, and vomiting.

In fact, some people may have doubts about whether coffee can be taken with medicines and what the time interval should be, and some people may not even know it at all.

But in fact, there are hidden safety issues that cannot be ignored and we need to pay attention to them.

Therefore, in order to reduce the interaction between drugs and coffee and reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions, medication consultation is very important. Only when these issues are clarified can you take the medicine with peace of mind and drink coffee happily!
