How many typical symptoms of cataracts do you know?

Cataract is one of the most common eye diseases. It is an eye disease that causes partial or complete opacity and color change of the lens due to various reasons. Since its course of disease is relatively slow, many people will ignore it in the early stage. As the disease progresses, the scope of the eyeball opacity begins to expand, and obvious visual impairment occurs. Therefore, it is very important to understand the symptoms of cataract, especially the early symptoms.

Blurred vision

Cao Xiangrong, director of Tianjin University Aier Eye Hospital, said that blurred vision is a major symptom of cataracts. Usually, vision gradually decreases, and vision gradually becomes blurred, and everything looks gray. When looking at lights at night, colored halos appear, or double vision appears. If cataract patients drive at night, they will feel uncomfortable because the headlights of oncoming cars are too dazzling.

Presbyopia symptoms alleviated

Some elderly people who usually need to wear reading glasses suddenly find that they can see clearly without wearing them. Some elderly people are very happy. In fact, this may be one of the symptoms of cataracts. Because when senile cataracts first occur, the convexity of the lens increases and the near point of refraction changes, so the symptoms of presbyopia will be alleviated.

Dark Shadows

Dark shadows in front of the eyes are also one of the early symptoms of cataracts. In the early stage of cataracts, the cloudy parts are all in the pupil area, so sometimes when looking at objects, there will be fixed positions and unchanged shapes of dot-shaped or sheet-shaped shadows. It is different from floaters caused by vitreous opacities, in which the shadows are movable, appearing and disappearing, and the shapes are changing.

Day blindness and night blindness

If the lens opacity starts in the central part, when the light is strong during the day and the pupil is constricted, light is blocked from entering the eye, resulting in daytime blindness; if the lens opacity is located in the peripheral part, the dark light is blocked from entering the equatorial retina at night, and the rod cells of the equatorial retina are responsible for night vision, thus night blindness will occur. This is also one of the early symptoms of cataracts.

Abnormal color vision

Cataracts can cause the lens to become cloudy, and the cloudy part may absorb wavelengths of light, so that patients are prone to color changes when looking at objects. In addition, the cloudy lens may appear yellowish brown or light yellow, which can also cause patients to see color changes when looking at things, usually manifested as green or yellow color changes.

Kind tips

Cataracts usually occur in people over 50 years old. The older you are, the higher the incidence rate is. In addition, patients with high myopia and diabetes may develop cataracts relatively early. Therefore, you can self-test to see if you have the above symptoms and have regular eye examinations to detect and intervene in cataracts early.
