Bivalent HPV vaccine

Bivalent HPV vaccine

According to statistics, cervical cancer is the second largest "killer" of women's reproductive health, second only to breast cancer, and the third most common cancer among women aged 15-44 (from high to low: breast cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer). According to statistics from my country in 2015, the number of new cases of cervical cancer reached about 100,000, and the total annual death toll was about 30,000, which means that about 300 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer and 80 women died from it every day. 99.7% of cervical cancer is caused by HPV infection. HPV vaccine, as "the world's first vaccine that can prevent cancer", has attracted much attention.

What is HPV vaccine?

HPV stands for human papillomavirus. The family is very large, with more than 100 known species. According to their carcinogens, they can be divided into low-risk and high-risk types. Among them, high-risk HPV types include 16, 18, 31, and 33, which cause 95% of cervical cancer in the world. The current HPV vaccine is mainly a vaccine against high-risk HPV for cervical cancer. In other words, this vaccine is specifically targeted at HPV that causes cervical cancer, so the HPV vaccine has important practical significance.

HPV vaccine price

There are currently three types of vaccines available internationally: bivalent, quadrivalent, and nonavalent. Domestically, only the bivalent vaccine is currently available, and quadrivalent and nonavalent vaccines will be launched one after another in the future. The valence mentioned here refers to the number of types of virus subtypes. The higher the valence, the more HPV types can be prevented.

Bivalent vaccine

Because HPV types 16 and 18 cause more than 70% of cervical cancer, the most basic bivalent vaccine is for types 16 and 18. Suitable age is 9-45 years old.

Quadrivalent vaccine

HPV types 6 and 11 cause 90% of genital warts, so the quadrivalent vaccine adds types 6 and 11 to the bivalent vaccine, and the applicable range is expanded to 20-45 years old.

Nine-valent vaccine

According to clinical epidemiological findings, Asians are most susceptible to HPV types 52 and 58. Therefore, five more types are added to the quadrivalent vaccine, namely HPV 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58. The nine-valent vaccine can prevent 90% of cervical cancer.
