iSupply: Samsung's chip market share in Q1 2013 was 10.5%, ranking second in the world

According to a survey report by market research firm iSupply, Samsung's system chip market share in the first quarter of 2013 was 10.5%, ranking second. Intel is still the leader in the global chip market, with 15.1% of the system chip market. From January to March this year, Samsung's chip sales were US$7.77 billion, while Intel's were US$11.16 billion. Next is Qualcomm, with a market share of 5.3% and sales of US$3.92 billion. Toshiba ranks fourth with a market share of 4% and sales of US$2.93 billion.

In comparison, Samsung's market share in the fourth quarter of last year was 11.1%, its average share last year was 10.3%, and its share the year before was 9.2%. The comparison shows that although Samsung's progress is not great, its share is slowly increasing.

In terms of memory chips, Samsung ranked first with a market share of 33.3% and total revenue of US$4.72 billion. SK Hynix Semiconductor ranked second with a market share of 17.4%.

Industry insiders believe that Samsung's increase in global chip market share is mainly due to the company's large-scale investment in system semiconductor technology in recent years. System semiconductors, also known as "system on a chip", mainly refer to the integration of all computer components or other electronic system components into an integrated circuit. Currently, this technology has been widely used in new smartphones and tablet devices.
