BI: Why is native app usage still higher than HTML5?

HTML 5 applications are applications developed based on web pages and run on mobile browsers. Unlike native applications, HTML 5 applications do not need to be developed specifically for mobile operating systems such as Apple iOS or Google Android. They have the feature of "write once, use forever".

In many cases, HTML 5 applications can provide excellent user experience like native applications. However, for some reasons, HTML 5 is not yet popular. HTML 5 also has its own fragmentation problem due to different mobile browsers used.

So, in the competition between HTML 5 applications and native applications, which one is stronger?

We analyzed this question and came up with an analysis report. In this analysis report, we compared the two applications, specifically analyzed the advantages of HTML 5 and its development barriers, and proposed ways to break these barriers. We also studied the differences between the two applications and interviewed HTML 5 skeptics, early adopters, and supporters from the developer's perspective.

Here are the reasons why we believe native app adoption is still higher than HTML 5 apps:

  • Rich user experience and performance: HTML 5 faces the fragmentation problem caused by the use of different browsers on different devices, and also has obvious weaknesses in image rendering, which makes it impossible for HTML 5 to provide users with high-quality user interfaces and data display effects.
  • Monetization: Native app stores, such as Apple's App Store and Android's Google Play, provide developers with a way to make money. HTML5 apps lack this channel for developers to make money.
  • Security: Currently, local applications are able to provide better security features and encryption methods.

What is the prospect of HTML 5? Of course, HTML 5 still has its own advantages, such as low cost of multi-platform deployment, fast upgrade speed, ability to help developers master control, low technical difficulty, etc. At the same time, its disadvantages are also obvious, that is, the serious fragmentation problem. In fact, both local applications and HTML 5 applications have the problem of fragmentation, but the types are different. In the end, we believe that HTML 5 will win in this competition.
