Genital herpes is a skin disease caused by infection with the herpes simplex virus. Chinese medicine calls it "heat sores", which often occur after a fever. They can be cured, but are prone to recurrence. They are mostly infected through sexual intercourse, or contact with the birth canal, and can also be indirectly infected by air pollutants. Humans are the only host infected by this virus, and 50%-70% of ordinary people are carriers of the virus. The symptoms of this disease are as follows:

1. Primary

The critical period is an average of 1 week. The infected area first swells and becomes hot. On the basis of the erythema, there appear groups of small red papules, which itch and quickly develop into blisters. After 3 to 5 days, they become pustules. After rupture, they become shallow erosions and the sore surface is painful. If there is no secondary infection, the sore surface will eventually scar. The history of the disease is about 3 weeks. It is common in males on the glans penis, coronal sulcus, foreskin, scrotum and around the anus, and in females on the clitoris, vulva and around the anus. Due to local pain, urination is difficult, and symptoms such as fever and discomfort all over the body, headache, etc. often occur. The inguinal lymph nodes are swollen and painful, and women have excessive vaginal discharge.

2. Repetitiveness

About more than half of the primary patients will have another attack due to various reasons within one year after the symptoms disappear. They will have abnormal sensations such as local tingling, no obvious systemic symptoms, no swelling of local lymph nodes, and the blisters and pustules on the skin will turn into ulcers in 1-2 days, scarring in 4-5 days, and recovery in 10 days without leaving scars.

Warm reminder: Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease that can harm the patient and pose a threat to family harmony. Women with genital herpes are more likely to develop cervical cancer, so they should be treated promptly.
