Global public health risk assessment is moderate

According to Reuters, on the 29th local time, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a disease information bulletin, assessing the global public health risk of monkeypox as medium.

According to reports, the WHO stated in a notice that between May 13 and 26, 23 non-monkeypox endemic countries and regions had reported 257 confirmed cases of monkeypox to the WHO, and there were about 120 suspected cases, and no deaths had been reported.

Beijing CDC explains monkeypox-related issues

According to Beijing Youth Daily, Chen Yanwei and Dou Xiangfeng, two experts from the Institute of Infectious Diseases and Geography of Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, explained the monkeypox issue in detail. The experts said that monkeypox is a long-standing disease and a zoonosis.

However, unlike COVID-19, monkeypox is not a new infectious disease. Compared with COVID-19, monkeypox has higher requirements for transmission and is therefore less efficient. Monkeypox is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus with a relatively stable genome and a slow mutation rate.

Most infected people will recover within 2 to 4 weeks without special treatment. So far, no cases of monkeypox have been reported in my country.

How to prevent monkeypox? Experts say that confirmed patients need to be isolated to prevent infecting others. Ordinary people should avoid contact with the skin and body fluids of patients who may have monkeypox, and avoid contact with clothing, towels and bedding contaminated by patients. Keeping distance in crowded places, wearing masks and washing hands frequently, avoiding contact with wild animals, especially sick or dead animals, and not eating undercooked meat products can also reduce the risk of infection.
