Children's "War Epidemic" Home Protection Guide

Children's "War Epidemic" Home Protection Guide

Recently, the COVID-19 outbreak has occurred in my country. During the period of national quarantine at home, how to ensure that children at home can successfully survive the epidemic has become a major concern for every parent. Based on the health education manual of the China Health Education Center and the "Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia in Children" issued by the Liuzhou Municipal Health Commission, we have sorted out the following aspects that parents need to pay attention to in their children's anti-epidemic protection:

Health

(1) Children should try to avoid going out, not going to crowded and enclosed places, and not contacting people with symptoms of respiratory infection.

(ii) Ventilate the room regularly 2-3 times a day, each time for about 20-30 minutes.

(3) Regularly disinfect children’s belongings, toys and tableware at least once a day.

When using disinfection products, avoid contact with children's eyes and mouths. The disinfected items should be left to dry and not used until the irritating substances have fully evaporated.

(IV) Parents should wear masks when going out, and change their outer clothes and wash their hands before contacting their children when they return.

(5) Parents should teach their children the correct way to wash their hands and urge them to wash their hands frequently.

(VI) When breastfeeding, mothers need to wear masks and wash their hands and nipples. If the mother is a suspected or confirmed case, breastfeeding must be suspended.

(VII) Parents who are close contacts should live separately from their children when they are quarantined at home.

(8) Do not kiss children, sneeze, exhale, or cough towards them. Do not touch their eyes, mouth, nose, etc. with unclean hands.

Note: Children should be given alcohol-free hand sanitizer under the supervision of their parents:

√ Use according to the product instructions, about the size of a 1 yuan coin;

√ Rub your hands together until they are dry, about 20 seconds, and fully cover the creases and fingertips;

√ Pay attention to children and prevent them from sucking their fingers or rubbing their eyes to avoid alcohol poisoning;

√ Be sure to keep hand sanitizer out of the reach of children and away from flames.

Diet

1. It is recommended that children eat fresh vegetables, fruits, lean meat, eggs, milk, soy products, etc. to ensure adequate nutritional intake.

2. If the child has poor appetite, you can follow the principle of eating small meals frequently and feed him/her semi-liquid or liquid food, such as vegetable porridge, egg custard, thick rice soup and other easily digestible foods.

3. Encourage your children to drink more water, preferably boiled water, fresh fruit or vegetable juice is also acceptable.

4. Avoid feeding children spicy, fried, and high-sugar foods.

Note:

1. Ingredients should be fresh and hygienic, and food should be cooked thoroughly, especially meat and eggs.

2. Wash your hands between handling raw and cooked food, and use separate knives, cutting boards, and bowls and chopsticks.

4. Wash your hands after preparing meals before touching children.

5. Do not give children food that adults have eaten, and do not blow on children’s food to cool it down with your mouth.

6. When eating, use your own bowl and chopsticks, and use serving chopsticks to share food.

Going out protection

1. Wear a children's mask

Children under 1 year old are not suitable for wearing masks, and passive protection is the main approach. Children over 1 year old should wear masks when going out (be sure to wash hands before wearing a mask for at least 30 seconds). Adult masks cannot be used instead of children's masks. Parents should pay attention to observe their children's breathing after wearing them.

The priority of mask selection is: children's surgical mask → children's medical mask → disposable mask → children's cotton mask. (Although N95 has the best virus protection, it has poor breathability and is not suitable for children).

The protective effect of all types of masks is limited and they should be replaced every 2 to 4 hours. If the mask is damp or contaminated with secretions, it should be replaced as soon as possible.

2. Transportation

When going out, try not to take public transportation, and keep a certain distance (more than 1 meter) from other people. Try to go to open, ventilated, and less crowded areas.

3. After returning from an outing

When you get home, after taking off your outer clothes and changing your shoes, the first thing you should do is wash your hands carefully (for no less than 30 seconds) according to the standard steps, and rub every part of your hands carefully. After washing your hands, you can wash your face and nose.
