Another kind of "shit" produced by the human body, you and I swallow 2 bottles every day!

In 1995, American scholars conducted a study on nose picking:

Among 254 adults, 91% admitted that they pick their noses, while the remaining 9% would never admit it!

But given that some people are ashamed to admit it, the number of people who have never dug it may be even smaller.

In 2000, two Indian scholars conducted a survey on nose picking among teenagers:

The results were much more honest: Almost all of the 200 teenagers surveyed admitted to picking their noses, and on average they did so four times a day...

Both adults and children are "obsessed" with picking their noses.

Picking your nose really makes you feel refreshed. Your nose is no longer blocked, you can breathe freely, and you have an inexplicable sense of accomplishment.

Boogers are formed by the solidification of nasal secretions.

The nasal cavity is covered with a thin layer of nasal mucosa, which is rich in capillaries and secretes a lot of mucus (also known as nasal mucus) to protect and moisturize the nasal cavity.

When breathing brings in allergens such as dust and germs, the mucus will hold them tightly and slowly dry and solidify in the nasal cavity. Ding~ a booger is gloriously born.

A normal person can secrete 500-1000ml of snot a day, which is the amount of 1-2 bottles of mineral water! When you are sick with a cold, the nasal mucosa is congested and the secretion will be even greater!

Do you feel like a walking snot monster?

So where does all that snot go?

In fact, most of it flows into the posterior nasal aperture, enters the pharynx, and returns to the body, which means it is produced and collected by ourselves.

So under normal circumstances, we can only feel a very small amount of solidified booger.

But many people enjoy digging out this little bit of booger.

But it is still not recommended that you pick your nose, because picking your nose really has many disadvantages:

The capillaries on the nasal mucosa are mostly fine and superficial. Frequent and forceful picking can easily cause damage to the nasal mucosa or bleeding.

There are a lot of bacteria hidden on fingers. Picking your nose will bring them into your nostrils, which may cause nasal infection and induce diseases such as vestibulitis and vestibular furunculosis.

Especially as the COVID-19 pandemic becomes normalized, the new coronavirus and deltavirus are very likely to cause infection by picking the nose and contacting the nasal mucosal cells.

No matter how good the nose is, it cannot withstand repeated stimulation. When the mucosa becomes inflamed and edema occurs, nasal polyps may be induced.

In addition, picking your nose is really detrimental to your image and pollutes the environment. You must have seen many people flicking the picked nose boogers everywhere, or smearing them on door frames, under tables... Ugh~ So, if you can pick less, don't pick it~ If you must pick it, you must master the correct posture~

The correct way to pick your nose

To deal with ordinary nasal mucus, you can put a tissue on it and blow your nose yourself.

To deal with "stubborn" hard nasal boogers, you can use a cotton swab dipped in warm water to moisten it, or spray some saline solution into the nasal cavity (the osmotic pressure of saline solution is close to that of human body fluids, which can keep the nasal cavity in a relatively stable internal environment). After it softens, put a tissue under it and blow it out.

If you feel uncomfortable with this, you must touch your nostrils closely with your hands. Remember to wash your hands first and be gentle~

Finally, I remind you again, if you want to pick your nose, please restrain yourself! Restrain yourself! Restrain yourself!
