Lung cancer is still the most common cancer in the country

According to data released by the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer, China had the highest number of new cancer cases in the world in 2020, approximately 4.57 million, among which lung cancer ranked first in the number of new cases.

In recent years, the incidence of lung cancer remains high.

In 2020 alone, the global incidence of new cases of lung cancer reached 2.2 million, while in China, the number of new cases of lung cancer in 2020 reached 820,000, and the number of deaths was 710,000.

Like other cancers, lung cancer has a high mortality rate mainly because most patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage. However, if lung cancer is detected early, the 5-year survival rate after treatment is as high as over 90%.

That is to say, timing is everything.

Currently, lung cancer mortality remains the highest in China.

Males have higher mortality rates than females in all age groups

Who are the high-risk groups for lung cancer?

The high-risk group for lung cancer refers to those who are 45 years old and above and have at least one of the following risk factors: ① Smoking ≥ 20 packs/year, or a smoking index of 400 or above (smoking index = number of years of smoking × number of cigarettes smoked per day), also including those who have smoked but quit smoking less than 15 years ago; ② Long-term passive smokers; ③ Those with a history of occupational exposure (exposure to smoke, toxic chemical gases, asbestos, beryllium, uranium, radon, radiation, etc.); ④ A history of malignant tumors or a family history of lung cancer; ⑤ A history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), silicosis, tuberculosis or diffuse pulmonary fibrosis.

Early cancer screening is important

Screening for lung cancer is relatively simple, mainly involving low-dose spiral CT. Compared with other examinations such as gastrointestinal endoscopy, the popularity of chest CT is gradually increasing. Because of this, the current rate of detection of early lung cancer is higher than before.

For healthy people over 40 years old, it is recommended to have a chest CT scan every 2 years. For people at high risk of lung cancer, it is recommended to have a chest CT scan every year.
