How long is the lifespan of dental implants? Dentist: Remember these points and you may be able to use them for life

Tooth loss affects life

Long-term tooth loss will affect health

Therefore, more and more people choose dental implants

But dentists remind you: having dental implants does not mean you can always have it done.

Many people still have these questions about dental implant restoration

Are dental implants durable? How long is the lifespan of dental implants? Some people use the same dental implants for decades and they are still in good condition, while others fail within ten years?

......

Today, I will share with you some information about the lifespan of dental implants.

According to statistics: the five-year success rate of dental implants has reached over 90%; the ten-year success rate is over 85%; clinically, there have been reports of cases where dental implants have continued to function after nearly forty years of use.

But~

How long a dental implant can last varies from person to person, because the lifespan of a dental implant is affected by the following factors:

1. Doctor’s skills and experience

Dental implants have extremely high requirements on the doctor's skills and experience. The doctor must receive specialized implant studies and training and have rich clinical experience in order to correctly complete every step of implant treatment and ensure the long-term effects of dental implants.

2. Quality of the planting system

Different dental implant systems have different service lives. Implant systems have strict requirements and standards in production technology, appearance design, connection method, processing accuracy, upper structure, sterilization and packaging, so the quality of dental implant systems is an important factor affecting the life of dental implants.

Maintenance and care after implantation are the key to the life of dental implants! Carry out maintenance according to the doctor's instructions and conduct regular checkups and maintenance to extend the life of dental implants. Under normal circumstances, the life of dental implants can reach about 20-40 years.

01. Maintain good usage habits

Because the implant is in direct contact with the bone, without the protective buffering and force feedback of the periodontal membrane of natural teeth, excessive bite force and adverse lateral force will lead to the absorption of the alveolar bone and affect the life of the implant.

If any abnormal situation is found during use, such as the dental implant is accidentally hit by external force, the dental implant is loose, the gums are red and painful, or there is bleeding when brushing teeth, etc., you should seek medical attention immediately.

02. Keep your mouth clean

In addition to using the correct brushing method, brushing your teeth every morning and evening, and rinsing your mouth after meals, you should also pay special attention to the hygiene of the dental implant. The key areas to clean are the neck of the dental implant and the surrounding gum tissue.

Choose a soft and elastic toothbrush to clean the tooth surface and the gaps between teeth. At the same time, use cleaning auxiliary tools such as dental floss and water flosser.

03. Quit smoking

Smoking is very harmful to all kinds of restorations.

Therefore, it is recommended that patients quit smoking before and after dental implants. Clinical studies have shown that the lifespan of dental implants in long-term smokers is often shorter than that of non-smokers. If oral hygiene is not good, the lifespan of dental implants will be even shorter.

04. Regular review and maintenance

Dentists say that it is not enough to just brush your teeth at home and use dental floss and an oral irrigator. The key is to go to an oral institution for regular checkups and maintenance. If there are periodontal problems such as plaque and tartar, "teeth cleaning" is required in a timely manner.

Regular check-ups can check whether the implants are loose or whether there is any occlusion disharmony. If there are any abnormalities, they can be dealt with in time. Therefore, it is recommended that patients have an oral examination at least once every six months. Special patients should follow the doctor's instructions for regular follow-up visits.
