Is there false or true astigmatism? How should astigmatism be treated?

Friends with myopia must have heard of the word astigmatism. The degree of astigmatism is generally not as high as myopia, but if it exceeds 75 degrees, it will be corrected together with myopia glasses. Myopia can be divided into true and false myopia, so is there such a difference for astigmatism? So how to treat astigmatism?

Is astigmatism real or fake?

There is no such thing as false astigmatism. Astigmatism and myopia have completely different causes. There is false myopia, but there is no false astigmatism.

Astigmatism can be divided into congenital and acquired. Generally, those with high astigmatism are mostly congenital. Acquired astigmatism is mostly caused by irregular astigmatism caused by corneal diseases and trauma, as well as changes in refractive media caused by cataracts.

Astigmatism is an abnormal refractive condition of the eye, which is related to the curvature of the cornea. Simply put, the things you see have multiple focal points, such as double vision. Some bad habits in daily life, such as lying down to read books or mobile phones, rubbing eyes frequently, looking at flickering screens for a long time, wearing inappropriate glasses that cause long-term squinting, and looking at things with effort, all of these situations will compress the eyeball, compress the cornea into an irregular curvature, and cause astigmatism.

How to treat eye astigmatism

Regular astigmatism is easy to treat, but irregular astigmatism is difficult to treat. Most eye astigmatism is congenital, but acquired infections, trauma, etc. can also cause astigmatism.

Regular astigmatism is symmetrical and can be corrected with astigmatism lenses; irregular astigmatism is mostly caused by trauma, infection, irregular cornea or lens, and cannot be corrected with astigmatism lenses.

Regular astigmatism:

1. Wear glasses. It is not recommended to wear invisible glasses, as they are not effective in correcting astigmatism. If the astigmatism is very large, it is recommended to wear hard corneal contact lenses, also known as hard invisible lenses, commonly known as RGP, which are better than framed ones.

2. Refractive surgery: Adults can undergo corneal surgery or implant astigmatism lenses.

3. Orthokeratology lenses: can handle astigmatism below 1.5d.

Treatment of irregular astigmatism

1. Use rgp

2. Keratoplasty is possible for keratoconus

3. Most irregular astigmatism is difficult to treat.

Can myopia and astigmatism be cured?

There is currently no effective medication or physical method to treat myopic astigmatism, and it is irreversible.

Astigmatism is a manifestation of eye refractive abnormality. Since the refractive power of each radial line of the eye is different, parallel light enters the eye and forms a focal line on the retina, forming a refractive state of the focal line.

Astigmatism makes it difficult to see clearly. Mild astigmatism has little effect on the clarity of objects, but it is more obvious at distance. Long-term viewing can cause dizziness and headaches, and the eyes are easily tired. Severe astigmatism makes it difficult to see at any distance. If the distance is too close or the viewing time is too long, the vision will be distorted, blurred, and ghosted. Reading for a long time will cause sore eyes and a swollen head.

75 degrees is the watershed of astigmatism. Astigmatism below 75 degrees has little effect on the definition of visual objects, but you should also protect your eyes well in daily life and not let the degree of astigmatism continue to deepen. When the astigmatism exceeds 75 degrees, it is best to go for a check-up.
