How to sleep during pregnancy is better for the baby

In addition to lying flat on your back, there are three other sleeping positions: lying on the left side and lying on the right side. But there is no precise answer as to which sleeping position is more comfortable, as it all varies from person to person. For most people, no matter which sleeping position they adopt, as long as they feel comfortable sleeping in that position, it's fine.

But for expectant mothers in special families, mastering the correct sleeping position can not only make themselves more relaxed, but also make the baby more "enjoyable". Some people say that it is better for pregnant women to sleep on their left side, while others say that expectant mothers should sleep on their right side, which is more beneficial to the healthy growth of the fetus. In short, there are many different opinions about the sleeping posture of pregnant women in folk customs. The mother-in-law has her own reasons, and the husband has his own opinions. So which one is more scientific?

Experts suggest: The sleeping posture for pregnant women cannot be generalized and should be carried out in stages. Generally, in the early stages of pregnancy, the uterus does not enlarge significantly, and the posture has little effect on the fetus, so the sleeping posture during this period can be casual, as long as you feel comfortable.

However, after the fifth month of pregnancy, the weight capacity of the uterus has increased significantly, and the close relationship between the uterus and the surrounding organ blood vessels has also changed, especially after the seventh month of pregnancy. Due to the increase in the mother's own weight and the baby's weight, the posture at this stage can directly affect the blood flow in the uterus, which is not only related to the mother's health, but also has a crucial impact on the well-being of the fetus.

Pregnant women should pay attention to protecting their abdomen when sleeping in the second trimester to avoid the immediate effects of external force.

If the pregnant woman has too much amniotic fluid or is pregnant with twins, she needs to sleep on her side, which can make the pregnant woman more comfortable. Other sleeping positions will cause compression syndrome. If pregnant women feel that their lower limbs are heavy, they can adopt a supine sleeping position and use a soft pillow to slightly raise their lower limbs.

In the later stages of pregnancy, sleeping posture is very important, because the sleeping posture of pregnant women is often closely related to the well-being of themselves and the fetus. It is not suitable to sleep supinely in the late pregnancy. When sleeping supinely, the huge uterus is compressed on the inferior vena cava, which reduces the ventricle's return force and cardiac output, resulting in hypotension. Pregnant women may feel dizzy, panicky, nauseous, and breathless, and may also become pale, have weak limbs, and sweat. If the above symptoms occur, you should immediately adopt the left side sleeping position, your blood pressure will gradually recover and the symptoms will subside.

In the late pregnancy, it is suitable to sleep on the left side. This sleeping position can correct the right rotation of the enlarged uterus, relieve the compression of the uterus on the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries, improve blood circulation, increase blood supply to the fetus, and is beneficial to the development of the fetus.
