Why is my vulva itchy all the time?

Why is my vulva itchy all the time?

The vulva is a relatively important and private part for women. Many women have the problem of vulva itching, which can cause great pain and inconvenience to women. Therefore, if the problem of vulva itching occurs, it must be treated in time. There are many reasons that lead to dry and itchy vulva in women. Below, we will introduce the causes, examination methods and precautions of dry and itchy vulva in detail!

1. What causes dry and itchy vulva?

1. Special infections and bad hygiene habits (65%):

Not paying attention to the local cleanliness of the vulva, sebum, sweat, menstruation, vaginal secretions, and even urine and feces can cause itching due to long-term stimulation of the vulva: using rubber or plastic menstrual belts during menstruation and wearing non-breathable chemical fiber underwear at other times can induce itching due to the accumulation of damp heat.

2. Systemic causes (10%):

Due to the irritation of diabetes to the vulvar skin, especially when accompanied by fungal vulvitis, vulvar itching is particularly severe. Many patients first seek medical treatment due to itching and redness of the vulva, and are only diagnosed with diabetes after further examination. Unexplained vulvar itching Some patients have very severe vulvar itching, but no obvious systemic or local cause can be found. Some people currently believe that it may be related to mental or psychological factors.

3. Others (10%):

The main symptom of chronic vulvar dystrophy is severe itching, accompanied by whitening of the vulvar skin.

Drug allergy or chemical irritation Soap, condoms, Sanisol, mercurochrome, etc. can cause contact dermatitis due to direct irritation or allergy, resulting in itching symptoms.

Other skin lesions, abrasions, common warts, herpes, eczema, and tumors can all cause vulvar itching.

2. How to check for dry and itchy vulva

1. Vulvar examination

Check whether the skin of the vulva is smooth and has normal color, and whether there are any ulcers, dermatitis, growths, or hypopigmentation. Normal vulva: pubic hair is pointed downward and distributed in a triangular shape, the labia majora is pigmented, the labia minora is slightly red, the clitoris is 2.5 cm long, and the mucosa around the urethral opening is light pink.

2. Vaginal examination

Check whether the surface of the vaginal mucosa is smooth, whether the texture is normal, whether there are bleeding spots, and whether the properties and odor of the vaginal secretions are normal. Normal vagina: The vaginal wall mucosa is light pink in color, with wrinkles, no ulcers, growths, cysts, or congenital malformations. The secretions are egg white-like or white paste-like, without any fishy smell, and in small amounts, but increase during ovulation and pregnancy. If your vaginal discharge is to be examined, your doctor will take a sample at this time.

3. What should I pay attention to when my vulva is dry and itchy?

1. Avoid eating foods that cause hair growth. Such as fish, shrimp, crab, chicken head, pork head, goose meat, chicken wings, chicken feet, etc., will aggravate the itching and inflammation of the vagina after eating.

2. Try to eat less spicy and irritating food. For example: onions, peppers, chili peppers, Sichuan peppercorns, mustard greens, and fennel.

3. Avoid eating fried and greasy foods. Such as fried dough sticks, cream, butter, chocolate, etc., these foods help to increase moisture and heat, which will increase the secretion of leucorrhea and are not conducive to the treatment of the disease.

4. Quit smoking and drinking. Tobacco and alcohol are strong irritants and will aggravate inflammation.
