Do pregnant women need to fast for routine blood and urine tests?

Regular checkups during pregnancy can help doctors understand the development of the fetus and the physical condition of the pregnant woman at any time. Pregnancy checkups are beneficial to both the fetus and the pregnant woman. However, there are many items in pregnancy checkups, and many of them require fasting. Blood routine and urine routine tests are the most common tests. Do pregnant women need to fast when doing blood routine and urine routine tests?

Do pregnant women need to fast for routine blood and urine tests?

If pregnant women only need to have their blood and urine tested, they do not need to fast, because these two results have nothing to do with eating clinically, so fasting is not necessary. However, if you want to check liver function, kidney function, and thyroid function, these tests require fasting clinically, because the results of these tests are affected by diet, so they must be checked on an fasting stomach. In addition, it is recommended to have regular prenatal checkups during pregnancy. Go to the hospital for prenatal checkups according to the doctor's requirements. The main purpose is to understand the development of the fetus and whether the fetal heart rate is normal. Different auxiliary examinations should be done according to different periods. For example, a four-dimensional color ultrasound examination should be done at 23-28 weeks of pregnancy, mainly to rule out fetal malformations.

Routine blood test items for pregnant women

The main items of routine blood examination for pregnant women include: hemoglobin, platelets, white blood cells, etc.

Understanding the inspection report:

1. Red blood cells are mainly used to determine whether the expectant mother is anemic. The normal value is 100g/L-160g/L. Mild anemia has little impact on expectant mothers and delivery, but severe anemia can cause adverse consequences such as premature birth and low birth weight babies.

2. White blood cells play a role in eliminating pathogens and protecting health in the body. The normal value is 4-10*109/L. Exceeding this range indicates the possibility of viral infection, but it can be slightly increased during pregnancy.

There are several types of white blood cells:

(1) Neutrophil count: normal is 0.5-0.7. The reasons for increase or decrease are the same as those for white blood cell count;

(2) Lymphocytes: Normally, the number is 0.2-0.4. When the number increases, it indicates that the expectant mother may have neutropenia, tuberculosis, whooping cough, etc. However, a decrease is not a good sign either, indicating an increase in neutrophils;

(3) Eosinophils: The normal level is 0.005~0.05. An increase in eosinophils means that the expectant mother may suffer from parasitic diseases, allergic diseases and certain skin diseases.

(4) Alkali phils: The normal range is 0~0.0075. This data has little impact on expectant mothers.

(5) Monocytes: normal count is 0.01-0.08. Increased counts are seen during the recovery period of acute infectious diseases.

The definition of high white blood cell count should be observed together with neutrophils. There is no absolute value for simple white blood cell deviation. If the neutrophil count is normal and there are no signs of inflammatory infection in the body, an increase in the total white blood cell count, sometimes even as high as 20×109/L, generally does not mean there is any problem.

3. Platelets play an important role in the hemostasis process. The normal value is 100-300*1012/L. If the platelet count is lower than 100*1012/L, it will affect the coagulation function of the expectant mother. The normal value range for expectant mothers does not change much compared to that of normal people, accounting for about 0.3% of normal blood. As long as the examination reaches the normal range, it is normal.
