Is breast bleeding an inflammation?

Breast hemorrhage is a very common phenomenon. Many people have breast hemorrhage at ordinary times. Most people are often particularly worried after this happens, fearing that they have cancer. Breast hemorrhage needs to be taken seriously and needs to be actively taken to the hospital for relevant examinations and treatment. Do not use medicine indiscriminately. Some people think that breast hemorrhage is caused by inflammation. Is breast hemorrhage an inflammation?

Is breast bleeding an inflammation?

Breast bleeding may be caused by inflammation, or by local capillary rupture and tumors. It is recommended that you go to the hospital for a check-up.

What is nipple bleeding?

Nipple bleeding refers to the discharge of blood-like fluid from one or several milk ducts of the nipple, spontaneously or when squeezed. It is different from nipple bleeding caused by nipple eczema or erosion. The color of the bleeding can be dark or light.

So what diseases can cause nipple bleeding? In fact, 40%-70% of patients have a special benign tumor growing in the milk duct - intraductal papilloma, which can be one or more. A small number are due to duct ectasia, mastitis, etc. Of course, it is also important to note that 10% to 15% of them are malignant. Most of these cases are early-stage intraductal carcinoma or intraductal papillary carcinoma, which are very effective in treating breast cancer and can basically achieve clinical cure for cancer patients, so there is no need to panic.

Four examination methods can help confirm the diagnosis

High-frequency breast X-ray (commonly known as molybdenum-palladium). Because high-frequency breast X-rays are highly sensitive and non-invasive in the diagnosis of breast cancer, they are also the first choice for nipple bleeding examinations. If a large number of clustered "white spots" (calcification points) are found in the breast with bleeding in the film, there is a more than 90% chance that the patient has breast cancer, and a surgical biopsy is required. If a high-frequency breast X-ray shows no abnormalities, another important test for nipple bleeding - duct endoscopy - is needed.

Ductoscopy. The lactiferous duct endoscope is like a bright light in a dark tunnel. It can clearly and intuitively observe the tiny lesions in the lactiferous duct wall and lumen from the opening of your lactiferous duct to 5-6 cm at the distal end. If the milk duct wall is found to be rough, stiff, and with irregular protrusions under a ductoscope, or a "messy" or "colorful" lump is found in the breast, these may be signs of ductal carcinoma. If the breast looks like a yellow grape and is normal under a breast endoscope, it is mostly considered to be benign (with the possibility of intraductal papilloma).

The milk duct washing fluid was examined by pathological cytology. If no abnormalities are found after breast X-ray and duct endoscopy, the doctor will perform a pathological cytology examination on the duct washing fluid during the duct endoscopy. If this examination also does not find malignant atypical tumor cells, the doctor will think that the cause of your nipple bleeding may be non-breast hyperplasia lesions such as mastitis and duct dilatation, and it is recommended to return to the outpatient clinic for a follow-up visit after 3 months. If the duct washing fluid cytology examination is grade 3 or 4, then a surgical excisional biopsy is required, while grades 0-2 can be closely followed up.

Breast MRI. If no malignant signs are found after the above examinations and you are still worried, you can undergo a breast MRI examination. Compared with mammary X-rays and ultrasound, breast MRI is a non-invasive examination with higher specificity and sensitivity in the diagnosis of nipple discharge breast cancer. Its sensitivity for early breast cancer is 86% to 100%. If no signs of malignancy are found after breast MRI, there is no need to worry about receiving close follow-up recommendations or undergoing surgical biopsy.
