NT test results normal value

NT test results normal value

During pregnancy, various prenatal tests are usually done, mainly to ensure the development of the fetus. Nt examination is one of all prenatal examinations, and it plays a great role in the health of the fetus. NT refers to the nuchal translucency. The thicker the nuchal translucency, the higher the risk of the baby getting sick. The NT examination can determine to a certain extent whether the fetus has abnormalities. So, what is the normal value of NT test results?

The thicker the nuchal translucency, the higher the baby's risk of disease. If the thickness reaches 6 mm, there is a high risk of Down syndrome and other chromosomal, genetic syndromes and heart problems. Fortunately, not many babies have such a thick nuchal translucency.

The nuchal translucency usually grows as the fetus grows and gradually disappears after 14 weeks of pregnancy. In China, doctors consider a nuchal translucency greater than 3 mm to be abnormal. Due to different individual conditions, some normal fetuses have more body fluids, which can easily affect the measurement results. If the nuchal translucency is thick, it does not necessarily mean that there is a problem with the fetus.

What is NT test?

Answer: During the 11th to 14th week of pregnancy, pregnant mothers usually have to undergo a special color ultrasound examination - NT color ultrasound.

NT is the abbreviation of nuchal translucency, which refers to the "neck translucency", which is the maximum thickness between the skin and subcutaneous soft tissue on the horizontal sagittal surface of the fetal cervical spine.

The NT test is also one of the diagnostic bases for early Down syndrome screening. The purpose of the test is to diagnose chromosomal diseases and detect fetal abnormalities caused by various reasons at an earlier stage of pregnancy.

Pregnant mothers generally do not need to make too much preparation when doing NT examination, and do not need to fast or hold urine.

What is the normal range of NT value?

NT value ≤ 2.5 mm, normal;

NT value >2.5 mm, abnormal.

If the thickness of the nuchal translucency exceeds 2.5 mm, the larger the NT value, the higher the probability of fetal chromosomal abnormalities.

For pregnant mothers in this situation, doctors will recommend chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis to determine whether the fetus has chromosomal abnormalities.

If the NT value is close to 3mm, the pregnant woman needs to decide whether to undergo further examination to clarify the risk of disease. Generally speaking, the thicker the nuchal translucency, the higher the risk of fetal abnormalities. If the thickness has reached 6mm, it is recommended to conduct subsequent risk screening to clarify the condition as early as possible.
