Itching on both sides of the vagina

Itching on both sides of the vagina

Itching on both sides of the vaginal opening is most likely a symptom caused by vaginitis. The incidence of vaginitis is relatively high. Female friends must take good care of their private parts in daily life to avoid the occurrence of this disease. Of course, if this disease occurs, the cause must be found out in time and then treated according to the specific cause. Here I will introduce you to some relevant knowledge about vaginitis!

1. The discomfort of vaginal itching

Vaginitis, or inflammation of the vagina, is a group of conditions that cause vulvovaginal symptoms such as itching, burning, irritation, and abnormal discharge. The vagina of a normal healthy woman has a natural defense function against the invasion of pathogens due to the characteristics of its anatomical tissue. For example, the closure of the vaginal opening, the close contact of the anterior and posterior walls of the vagina, the proliferation of vaginal epithelial cells and the keratinization of surface cells under the influence of estrogen, and the balance of vaginal acidity and alkalinity inhibit the reproduction of alkaline-adapted pathogens. The cervical mucus is alkaline. When the natural defense function of the vagina is destroyed, pathogens can easily invade and cause vaginal inflammation.

2. Reasons

1. Damage to the vaginal environment

Under normal circumstances, there are many microbial communities in the female vagina, forming a relationship of mutual checks and balances and coordinated development, maintaining the ecological balance of the vagina. If a woman's estrogen level decreases, or if the vaginal pH increases due to excessive sexual activity, the growth of lactobacillus will be hindered. In addition, long-term use of antibiotics or poor body resistance will hinder the growth of Lactobacillus, allowing other pathogenic bacteria to gain a dominant position, leading to inflammation.

2. Pathogen invasion

When there are changes in the internal or external environment of a woman's body, the vagina's own defense capabilities are impacted, making it susceptible to infection by bacteria, which in turn causes vaginitis. If you have a history of pelvic inflammatory disease, unclean sexual intercourse, or vaginal injury, you are more likely to develop vaginitis.

3. Low estrogen levels in young girls and postmenopausal women

The vagina of young women is not yet fully developed and cannot cover the urethral opening and vestibule, making them susceptible to bacterial infection. Moreover, due to the lower estrogen content in young women and higher vaginal acid-base levels, they are more likely to develop vaginitis. Women who have reached menopause are also more susceptible to bacterial invasion and inflammation due to lower levels of estrogen in their bodies and insufficient vaginal immunity.

3. Causes of recurrent attacks

1. Irregular medication and incomplete treatment

Generally, you need to take the medicine for two weeks and start the second course of treatment when the next menstrual period comes. Generally, you need to take three courses of treatment. Some patients stop taking the medication after using it three to five times and finding that their symptoms are relieved. However, this will cause inflammation to recur easily, and the bacteria will gradually become resistant to the drugs, which is not conducive to complete cure.

2. Infection from a partner

If the patient has a sexual partner, there is a high chance that the other person will also develop inflammation. If treatment is neglected because the symptoms are mild, it may easily lead to repeated infection. Women with vaginitis need to stop having sex until the disease is cured. If a woman is repeatedly infected with this disease, her partner also needs to go to the hospital for treatment.

3. Use sanitary pads

If women have the habit of using sanitary pads frequently, not only will the temperature of the vagina be higher, but the humidity will also increase, which will create favorable conditions for the reproduction of bacteria. The summer when the temperature is high and the menstrual period are the times when vaginitis is most likely to recur, so you must pay attention to cleanliness. During the menstrual period, you must remember to change sanitary napkins frequently, and try not to use sanitary pads in daily life to ensure that the private parts are dry and ventilated.
