Hcg, in fact, not everyone is familiar with it. In fact, hcg stands for human chorionic gonadotropin. Generally, we can judge whether we are pregnant by the changes in hcg values. Especially in the early stages of pregnancy, the hcg value fluctuates greatly, and we can judge the pregnancy period by the specific range of values. So, does an hcg value of over 600 mean an ectopic pregnancy? In fact, although the hcg value can determine the time of pregnancy, it cannot determine whether it is an ectopic pregnancy. Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone secreted by the syncytiotrophoblastic cells of the placenta. Blood HCG examination refers to the detection of HCG levels in serum to provide clinical basis for the diagnosis, differential diagnosis and prognosis of early pregnancy and HCG-related diseases such as ectopic pregnancy, hydatidiform mole, incomplete abortion, spermatogonial testicular cancer, etc. 1. Diagnosis of early pregnancy: HCG begins to be secreted by the trophoblast cells before the fertilized egg implants. It grows rapidly in the early stages, doubling in about 1.7 days, and reaches its peak in the blood at 8 to 10 weeks. Therefore, measuring the β-HCG level in blood and urine using RIA (radioimmunoassay) or ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is a more accurate method for diagnosing early pregnancy. 2. Incomplete abortion can cause elevated HCG levels. 3. The HCG concentration in the blood of patients with hydatidiform mole, choriocarcinoma and teratoma is significantly increased. 4. In spermatogonial testicular cancer, the HCG concentration in the blood is moderately elevated. 5. HCG has a high auxiliary diagnostic value for non-small cell lung cancer. HCG concentrations may be slightly elevated in diseases such as non-spermogenic testicular cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, and cirrhosis. 6. Testing HCG in patients with threatened abortion not only helps to understand the secretory function of placental trophoblastic cells, but also provides a basis for determining clinical treatment plans. In cases of spontaneous abortion, missed abortion, fetal malformation and intrauterine growth restriction, the HCG concentration in the blood decreases. 7. Early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy: In ectopic pregnancy, the HCC content is significantly lower than that in normal pregnancy. For those suspected of ectopic pregnancy, testing serum HCG can help to clarify the diagnosis. 6. Diagnosis and efficacy observation of trophoblastic cell disease: In trophoblastic cell disease, the HCG concentration in the blood increases significantly. The HCG level increases in the order of benign hydatidiform mole, malignant hydatidiform mole, and choriocarcinoma. The HCC value is basically parallel to the disease condition. Dynamic monitoring can reflect the dynamic process of cancer cell growth and degeneration. After treatment, HCG levels may decrease or turn negative. If they rise again after turning negative, the possibility of recurrence or metastasis should be considered. |
