My period suddenly became very heavy

When your period comes again, if the amount of blood is particularly heavy at one time, it depends on whether it is the first or second day. It is normal for the amount of blood to be heavy during these two days. The normal amount of bleeding is around 20 to 60 ml. If it exceeds 80 ml, it means that the menstrual flow is particularly heavy. A heavy menstrual flow is not normal bleeding, and it is very likely a manifestation of abnormal bleeding. You need to check whether there are blood clots, whether your body has had some bad experiences recently, etc.

Heavy menstrual flow with blood clots

What are the symptoms of heavy menstrual flow and blood clots? Generally speaking, women's menstrual cycle is 28 to 30 days. There are also a few people whose menstrual periods deviate slightly, but as long as there is a certain regularity, it is still a normal menstrual period. The normal menstrual volume is about 50ml, often fluctuating between 30ml and 60ml. The color of menstruation is dark red, and the blood is mixed with small fragments of shed endometrium, cervical mucosa, and vaginal epithelial cells.

Heavy menstrual flow means that the menstrual volume exceeds 60ml, reaching 60-80ml or even around 100ml a day.

Calculated by the number of sanitary napkins changed, it is normal to change 4-6 sanitary napkins a day and no more than two packs per cycle. If using three packs of sanitary napkins each time is not enough and each sanitary napkin is soaked, it means that your menstrual flow is too heavy.

The main components of normal menstruation are blood, endometrial fragments, biological factors and various active enzymes. Menstrual blood is generally dark red, non-coagulated, and contains cervical mucus and vaginal epithelial cells. Moon is often called liquid. This is the effect of the fibrinolytic enzymes in menstruation, which prevent it from coagulating.

But sometimes small clots fall off during menstruation, which are blood clots. Blood clots during menstruation are a very common phenomenon and it is very normal. However, if the blood clot is dark purple, close to black mucous fluid, or liver-colored, and most people describe it as a pig-red object, then it is menstrual abnormality, which is often accompanied by heavy menstrual flow.

What is it like to have two periods in one month?

The menstrual cycle of women is 28 to 30 days, and usually occurs once a month. However, for a small number of women, they have two periods in a month. What's going on?

Doctors say that having two periods in a month may be non-menstrual vaginal bleeding, which generally occurs in the following situations.

1. "Ovulation bleeding". Western medicine calls it ovulation bleeding, while traditional Chinese medicine calls it "intermenstrual bleeding." Some people only have a small amount of brown discharge, which usually lasts for half a day or 2-3 days, and no more than 7 days at most, and may be accompanied by mild ovulation pain and back pain. If the symptoms are mild, no treatment is required, but if the symptoms are obvious and may affect fertility, treatment should be given.

2. Functional uterine bleeding. It usually manifests itself in irregular menstrual cycles, heavy menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual periods or irregular bleeding. Due to long-term bleeding, some people also suffer from varying degrees of anemia.

3. If menstruation is delayed for 7-10 days before bleeding occurs, do not assume that it is definitely late. You should pay attention to whether the amount, color, and duration of bleeding are the same as normal menstruation. If the menstrual blood is sometimes more and sometimes less, and is continuous, and is accompanied by abdominal pain, you should be careful about the possibility of ectopic pregnancy or threatened abortion; if the bleeding is more than usual, lasts longer, and dysmenorrhea is obvious, it is more common in uterine fibroids or endometriosis. It is necessary to seek medical treatment promptly.
