What is functional uterine bleeding?

Regular uterine bleeding in women is what we call menstruation. The menstrual condition also affects women's physical health and even affects whether they can conceive normally. However, some women experience functional bleeding, which brings some effects to the body. But what is functional uterine bleeding? Women with functional uterine bleeding should pay attention to the dangers of this disease, which is a gynecological disease and also refers to abnormal uterine bleeding.

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding, also known as dysfunctional uterine bleeding, is a common gynecological disease. It refers to abnormal uterine bleeding. After diagnosis, no organic and reproductive organ diseases were found, but due to dysfunction of the neuroendocrine system. It is characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, heavy menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual periods, or irregular bleeding. It is characterized by irregular menstrual cycles and changes in the amount and nature of uterine bleeding, which can be divided into the following types:

1. Irregular uterine bleeding with a menstrual cycle of ≥40 days is often accompanied by a small amount of menorrhagia.

2. Irregular uterine bleeding with frequent menstrual cycles of ≤21 days, often accompanied by menorrhagia.

3. Menorrhagia refers to frequent cyclical uterine bleeding, excessive volume and/or prolonged menstruation.

4. Irregular menstruation refers to irregular menstrual cycles and small quantities of menstruation.

5. Irregular menstruation Menorrhagia refers to irregular menstrual cycles, excessive menstrual flow, and prolonged menstrual periods.

6. Lack of menstruation refers to the regularity of the menstrual cycle.

7. Intermenstrual bleeding refers to a small amount of uterine bleeding between two menstrual periods, often accompanied by ovulation and ovulation pain.

What is the treatment for functional uterine bleeding?

1. Curettage method

Curettage is a minor surgery that can be performed in an outpatient clinic, usually using local anesthesia. Under sterile conditions, the doctor uses a small curette to extend into the uterine cavity for scraping. The mechanical endometrium is quickly separated by mechanical means to achieve hemostasis. Although this method is a bit painful, it is quick and safe, and the results are generally reliable. More importantly, endometrial scrapings can be collected and sent to a pathology lab to see if there are polyps, tumors, and other diseases.

Therefore, for married patients and patients with a long course of irregular bleeding, especially those over 40 years old, curettage should be used to stop bleeding. However, if the house is scraped in the near future and the pathological examination does not see organic diseases, there is no need to repeat the curettage multiple times. After curettage, gross bleeding decreases immediately and stops completely within about a week.

2. Medical curettage

For unmarried patients, do not consider curettage or change the method of medical curettage. Medical curettage is a pathophysiological change in the absence of progesterone effect in patients with anovulatory dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Progesterone is injected intramuscularly into the patient at 20 mg per day for 3 days until the endometrium reaches the secretory phase. The drug is then stopped and causes artificial blood and progesterone levels to drop. Before using progesterone, it is important to explain to the patient that the effects of hemostasis should occur only after discontinuation and cessation of the drug, to prevent the patient from erroneously believing that treatment has failed and seeking other treatments or changing other hormones to cause drug disharmony.
