How many days does lochia last after painless abortion?

Abortion is like childbirth. Although no baby is born, the body will discharge lochia and bleeding after the abortion. However, the lochia after abortion is generally not obvious. Most of the time, there will be symptoms of mild bleeding, and the bleeding will not exceed a week. If there are other secretions such as lochia, you should go to the hospital for examination in time to see what the cause is.

After delivery, as the uterine decidua falls off, tissues containing blood, necrotic decidua and other tissues are discharged through the vagina, which is called lochia.

Postpartum lochia lasts for 4 to 6 weeks. The lochia is bloody in the first 3 to 4 days, then turns light red in about 10 days, and finally turns into white lochia, which lasts for about 3 weeks. Lochia has a bloody smell but no foul odor.

The causes of persistent lochia: 1. Poor uterine involution, 2. Residual placenta and fetal membranes in the uterine cavity, 3. Infection. The three causes can exist alone or together. For example, if there are fetal residues in the uterine cavity, it is easy to cause poor uterine recovery and infection. Intrauterine infection can lead to poor uterine involution, etc.

How can pregnant mothers prevent lochia?

1. Check leucorrhea one week before delivery to rule out the possibility of vaginitis. Because vaginal inflammation is a trigger for uterine inflammation, uterine infection will lead to lochia.

2. If the fetal membranes and placenta are not delivered completely during delivery, B-ultrasound reexamination is required after delivery. If it is confirmed that there are residual membranes, uterine curettage should be performed in time.

3. Breastfeeding is encouraged after childbirth. Breastfeeding sucking stimulates the nipples and promotes the secretion of oxytocin, which can promote uterine recovery.

4. Sexual intercourse is prohibited for 2 months after delivery. Having sex too early may cause infection and lead to unclean lochia.

5. Pay attention to rest after delivery, strengthen nutrition, eat a balanced diet, and improve resistance to promote postpartum recovery.

Treatment is mainly based on the cause of the disease. If the lochia is unclean due to residual fetal contents, a uterine curettage is required. If infection occurs, anti-infection treatment is required. If the uterus simply does not recover well, medication to promote uterine contractions is needed.
