What is the cause of postpartum low fever?

Some women will develop some diseases after giving birth, because during childbirth, a large amount of Qi and blood will be lost in the body. At this time, the physical fitness of women will become poorer, and sometimes they will be plagued by some diseases. In addition, due to childbirth, whether it is surgery or natural delivery, it may cause some inflammation in the body and cause fever. So what is the reason for postpartum low fever?

What is the cause of postpartum low fever?

First, mastitis causes fever. Mastitis is a common disease among new mothers after giving birth. Acute mastitis often occurs around 2 to 6 weeks after delivery. It often causes fever, sometimes accompanied by chills; the affected breast will have local redness, swelling, heat, pain, and lumps, and obvious tenderness. You should go to the hospital immediately and let the doctor help you lower your body temperature quickly.

Second, inflammation of the wound after natural delivery causes fever. The wound from natural childbirth usually heals in about a week. If the wound is red or swollen, you should go to the hospital for examination. The doctor will treat the area based on the specific circumstances of the redness and swelling. If there are ruptured small blood vessels, ice compresses can be used for treatment. If there are no ruptured small blood vessels, the situation is not too serious and perhaps only ointment may be needed. If the wound is painful, you can use painkillers and ice.

Third, urinary tract infection causes fever. Urinary tract infection is also one of the causes of postpartum fever, mainly because vulvar bacteria enter the urinary system through the urethra. About 80% of them are caused by Escherichia coli. Drinking less water and often holding urine can also easily cause urinary tract infection. The uterus compresses the ureter, which can easily cause frequent urination, holding urine and other obstacles.

What to do if you have a low-grade fever after childbirth

Be sure to drink plenty of water when you have a low-grade fever after childbirth. Drinking more water can replenish the water lost by the body due to sweating caused by fever. On the other hand, it can also excrete metabolic waste from the body by increasing urine, allowing heat to be excreted from the body with urine, thereby achieving a cooling effect. Increased urine volume can also flush the urethra, reducing the chance of bacteria staying in the urethra and preventing urinary tract infections.

When you have a low fever after childbirth, you can use ice packs to reduce the temperature. Wrap the ice bag with a layer of cotton cloth and do not let the ice bag touch the skin directly, as this may cause skin discomfort. Ice packs can be placed on the skin where large blood vessels run, such as the forehead, neck, armpits, groin, etc.

When you have a low fever after childbirth, you can also use alcohol rub bath to reduce the temperature. Generally 30%-50% is used. When doing a sponge bath, choose places where large blood vessels run, such as the armpits, thigh roots, and popliteal fossa. When doing a sponge bath, pay attention to the strength of your hands and avoid breaking the skin.

Mothers are usually very exhausted after giving birth, and they need more rest and nutrition, and also need to keep warm. Good health is the capital of revolution. Only with a healthy body can we have the strength to do other things. After giving birth, mothers can rest for a while and then do some exercise to lose weight and regain their figure.
