So what exactly does a caesarean section mean?

What does caesarean section mean?

When a woman is giving birth and the baby cannot be delivered smoothly from the birth canal, the doctor will cut open the mother's abdomen and take the baby out of the uterus. This is called a cesarean section. A cesarean section, or caesarean section, is a type of surgical procedure. The surgery involves opening the mother's abdomen and uterus to allow the baby to be delivered. It is an important operation in the field of obstetrics. With the advancement of anesthesiology, blood transfusion, infusion, water and electrolyte balance knowledge, as well as improvements in surgical methods, surgical suture materials and infection control measures, cesarean section has become an effective means to solve difficult labor and certain obstetric complications, and to save the lives of mothers and perinatal infants. The World Health Organization recommends that caesarean sections should not exceed 15%, with 5-10% being ideal.

Advantages of Caesarean Section

1. When vaginal delivery is absolutely impossible for some reason, a caesarean section can save the lives of mother and baby. A cesarean section is necessary when vaginal delivery is not possible or when vaginal delivery may be dangerous to the mother or the newborn (fetus).

2. The indications for cesarean section are clear, and anesthesia and surgery are generally smooth.

3. If an elective caesarean section is performed, the operation can be performed before uterine contractions begin, thus sparing the mother the pain of labor.

4. When there are other diseases in the abdominal cavity, they can also be treated together. For example, combined ovarian tumors or subserosal uterine fibroids can be removed at the same time.

5. For many pregnancy complications and termination of pregnancy, clinicians choose cesarean section to reduce the impact of complications and diseases on mother and child.

6. In case of placenta previa, if the mother gives birth naturally, it will cause heavy bleeding, which may put her life in danger. In addition, caesarean section is more suitable for situations such as giving birth to multiple babies.
