Is a 19-day menstrual cycle normal?

A normal menstrual cycle should be around 28 to 30 days. It is normal to have a period that is more than seven days or delayed by seven days. However, if the menstrual cycle is 19 days, this is mostly abnormal and there is no correct pattern. It often occurs in ten days or more than 20 days. There are several factors that can be considered for the irregular menstrual cycle, such as puberty or previous trauma to the body, etc.

Irregular menstrual cycles

Don't worry about menarche

Generally, women start menstruating when they are around 14 years old. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. It indicates that the body has matured and there is no need to be alarmed. However, some girls who lack physiological knowledge feel shy about this. During their menstrual period, they cannot eat or sleep and are worried. If this continues for a long time, the body will experience what Chinese medicine calls "stagnation of qi and blood stasis." This will first cause irregular menstruation, and then damage the cell system. If not treated in time, it may lead to infertility after marriage.

Therefore, when menstruation begins, girls should have a correct understanding of this, and mothers should tell their daughters about this knowledge and teach them some coping measures.

Pay attention to menstrual hygiene

During menstruation, if girls do not pay attention to hygiene, it is easy to induce a variety of gynecological diseases, such as irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, vaginitis, functional uterine bleeding, etc. These diseases will hinder conception after marriage.

In general, you should stay cheerful and optimistic mentally, and don't worry without reason; get enough rest and avoid carrying heavy loads; eat warm food and avoid cold food; live in a quiet and comfortable manner, and avoid sitting or lying on wet places or wading in the rain; wash your underwear and menstrual belt frequently, and change toilet paper (towels) frequently; take a bath appropriately, but not too frequently, to prevent colds.

Irregular menstruation should be treated early

Most infertile women have irregular menstruation to varying degrees, so it can be said that irregular menstruation is a sign of infertility. If this signal is discovered in adolescence, it is easy to adjust and the pregnancy rate after marriage is high; it is more difficult to adjust after marriage than in the teenage period and conception is slower.

The formation of menstruation

Menstruation is regulated by the interaction between reproductive hormones from the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and ovaries.

During the menstrual period and proliferation period of the cycle, the levels of estradiol and progesterone in the blood are very low, thereby weakening or eliminating the negative feedback effect on the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, leading to increased secretion of gonadotropin by the hypothalamus, which in turn leads to increased secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone by the pituitary gland, thereby causing follicles to develop and estrogen secretion to gradually increase. At this time, estrogen stimulates the endometrium to enter the proliferative phase.

Luteinizing hormone increases the secretion of progesterone, leading to ovulation. During this period, both estrogen and progesterone levels increase. This produces a negative feedback inhibitory effect on the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, thereby reducing the levels of ovulation-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone, leading to corpus luteum degeneration, and then reducing estrogen and progesterone levels.

The endometrium loses the support of these two hormones and begins to shed and bleed, which is when menstruation occurs. At this time, the decrease in estrogen and progesterone begins the next menstrual cycle.
