What to do if the mother has postpartum hemorrhage

Postpartum hematoma usually occurs in women who have undergone cesarean section. This is because the lochia that appears after delivery cannot be discharged in time, accumulating in the lower abdomen, causing infection and inflammation and causing pain. At this time, a doctor's help is needed to discharge the lochia from the body smoothly in order to relieve inflammation and pain. In addition, uterine contractions after delivery can also cause pain, accompanied by the discharge of secretions. The pain will subside over time with restorative treatment.

Postpartum abdominal pain is a normal physiological phenomenon. The pain varies from person to person. Some people feel mild pain, while others feel severe pain. All of this is normal. However, if the pain lasts for more than a week and is continuous, or is accompanied by a large amount of lochia, dark red color, many blood clots, and a foul odor, it is mostly due to pelvic inflammation and you should ask a doctor for examination and treatment.

Causes of postpartum abdominal pain

Although postpartum abdominal pain is a normal physiological phenomenon, we still need to dig deep to find out the causes of postpartum abdominal pain so that we can prevent it more specifically.

1. The cause of postpartum abdominal pain is due to uterine contraction. When the uterus contracts, it causes vascular ischemia, tissue hypoxia, and compression of nerve fibers, so the mother feels abdominal pain. When uterine contractions stop, blood circulation improves, blood vessels become unblocked, tissues are supplied with blood oxygen, nerve fibers are relieved of compression, and pain disappears. This process is generally completed within 1-2 days.

2. Bad mood: If the mother is too sad, worried or angry, it will make the liver qi uncomfortable, the liver qi stagnant, the blood flow obstructed and the qi and blood stasis, thus causing abdominal pain.

3. Lack of exercise: Some women stand, squat, sit or lie down for too long after delivery without changing their body position, which causes blood stasis and leads to pain and heaviness in the lower abdomen, and even back pain and coccyx pain.

4. Cold: If the mother is cold, or the abdomen is exposed to cold wind. At this time, the blood vessels are stagnant and the circulation of Qi and blood is not smooth. If you keep your lower abdomen "warm" or gently soothe it, your body will feel more comfortable.

Abdominal pain after childbirth is a normal physiological phenomenon. If the pain lasts for more than a week and is continuous, or is accompanied by a large amount of lochia, dark red color, many blood clots, and a foul odor, it is mostly due to pelvic inflammation and you should ask a doctor for examination and treatment.
