Precautions and care after normal delivery

Precautions and care after normal delivery

1. Postpartum observation

Women are most likely to experience postpartum hemorrhage within two hours after delivery, so they still need to be observed in the delivery room after delivery. After two hours of observation in the delivery room, the mother and child were moved to the baby-friendly area, and the mother herself also had to continue to be observed. Because once the uterus becomes weak in contraction at this time, it can easily cause postpartum hemorrhage.

2. Take time to rest

The delivery process exhausts the mother's physical strength. The most important thing on the first day after delivery is to rest to ensure physical recovery. Nowadays, many mothers and babies stay in the same room. The baby is with the mother, and the mother needs to breastfeed about every 3 to 4 hours and change the baby's diaper. Once the baby cries, the mother will have even less time to sleep, so the mother should try to take time to rest.

3. Have bowel movements as soon as possible

Women who give birth naturally should drink more water after delivery and have their first urination as soon as possible. Do not hold urine or drink less water for fear of pain. Because during the delivery process, the descending fetal head will compress the bladder and urethra, helping to restore bladder function. If you hold your urine for too long and your bladder is overfilled, it will affect uterine contractions and lead to postpartum hemorrhage.

4. Pay attention to hygiene and cleanliness

Postpartum women sweat a lot, and the sweat is more severe when sleeping and just waking up. Sometimes the sweat can even soak the underwear. In fact, this is a normal physiological phenomenon, not a sign of physical weakness, and it often improves on its own within a few days. The mother should change her underwear and bed sheets frequently, and the room should be ventilated. If fresh air is not allowed to enter the room, the mother will increase the chance of respiratory infection in the polluted air room. After giving birth, you should pay attention to the care of the perineum and rinse it with warm water after urination and defecation.

5. Breastfeeding can promote milk secretion

The brain sends signals to increase milk secretion, so breastfeeding must be started as early as possible to form a nerve reflex and increase milk secretion. Mothers can also eat more foods that can promote milk secretion, such as peanuts stewed with pig's trotters, fish soup, etc.

6. Eat more vegetables to avoid constipation

If the mother does not touch vegetables and fruits, she is likely to suffer from intestinal dryness and constipation. Eating more vegetables, fruits and melons rich in dietary fiber is very beneficial for preventing and treating postpartum constipation.

7. Don’t waste colostrum

Generally speaking, on the first day after delivery, the mother will secrete a small amount of sticky, slightly yellow milk, which is colostrum. Colostrum contains a large amount of antibodies, and its efficacy is irreplaceable by any milk powder. Colostrum can protect babies from bacteria, so mothers should feed their babies colostrum as much as possible to reduce the occurrence of neonatal diseases.

8. Observe postpartum lochia

After delivery, with the shedding of the uterine decidua, especially the decidua at the placental attachment, mucus containing blood, necrotic decidua and other tissues is discharged through the vagina. This is lochia. The duration of lochia varies from person to person, with an average of about 21 days. The shortest duration may be as short as 14 days, while the longest duration may last up to 6 weeks. If postpartum lochia recurs or does not stop, it will cause harm to the mother's body. You must go to the hospital in time and receive timely treatment under the doctor's guidance.

9. Vaginal relaxation after normal delivery

After a normal birth, the vagina will be stretched and will become loose to a certain extent, but the vagina itself has a certain recovery function. Combined with postpartum vaginal tightening exercises, the vaginal relaxation can be improved.
