What medicine should I take for adnexitis?

Adnexitis is a very common gynecological disease. There are acute and chronic adnexitis. Women with acute adnexitis will experience symptoms of lower abdominal pain and fever, and the amount of leucorrhea will increase. Chronic adnexitis can cause lower abdominal pain, low-grade fever, and pain during sexual intercourse. The pain is more obvious during fatigue or menstruation. So what medicine should be taken for adnexitis?

Drug treatment of adnexitis:

1. Vaginal medication and disinfectant are more effective.

2. Antibiotic treatment: For patients with obvious symptoms, antibiotics should be used as the first choice for treatment. Antibiotics can kill any remaining pathogenic bacteria and prevent acute attacks. Commonly used drugs are still penicillin, gentamicin, metronidazole, etc., and the usage is the same as that for acute salpingo-oophoritis and pelvic peritonitis.

3. Other drug treatments: Because the female reproductive system has a natural defense function, under normal circumstances, it can resist bacterial invasion. Only when the body's resistance decreases or the female's natural defense function is destroyed due to other reasons will adnexitis occur. Note that when cleaning the vulva every day, it is more appropriate to use a feminine care solution with a pH 4 weak acid formula. Simply rinsing with water or using alkaline shower gel will disrupt the acid-base balance of the vagina and inhibit the normal growth of lactobacilli.

4. For fallopian tube obstruction caused by chronic salpingitis, intrauterine injection can be performed. Use 160,000 units of gentamicin, 5 mg of α-chymotrypsin, and 5 mg of dexamethasone, dilute them with 20 ml of normal saline, strictly disinfect the vulva, vagina, and cervix, and then inject into the uterine cavity. Start 3 days after the menstruation ends, and inject once every 2 days until before ovulation. The treatment can be continued for 3 cycles.

The above is the expert’s introduction to the drug treatment for patients with adnexitis. However, each patient’s condition is different, so there are still certain differences in the use of drugs. Therefore, everyone should use symptomatic medication under the guidance of a doctor, and also take good care of adnexitis in daily life.
