What happens if ovarian cysts are not treated?

When a woman has an ovarian cyst, she must go to the hospital for good treatment in time to avoid the disease causing greater harm to her health. If she does not pay attention to timely treatment, it will not only cause abdominal pain and lumps in the abdomen, but also cause female infertility, edema, and irregular menstruation. It is also easy to cause miscarriage or premature birth. If the cyst ruptures, it may even pose a great threat to the life and health of women.

1. Abdominal pain

Patients may feel sudden abdominal pain, which is usually caused by twisting of the tumor pedicle, or rupture, bleeding, or infection of the tumor. In addition, malignant cysts often cause abdominal pain and leg pain, and the pain often causes patients to seek emergency treatment.

2. Intra-abdominal mass

The biggest feature of an intra-abdominal mass of medium size or smaller, if there are no complications or malignant transformation, is its mobility. It can often move from the pelvic cavity to the abdominal cavity. The mass is usually not tender to touch. However, if there are complications or malignant transformation, not only will the mass itself be tender, but there may even be symptoms of peritoneal irritation.

3. Infertility

Ovarian tumors are one of the important factors causing female infertility, which has no direct relationship with the size of the cyst, and the reason remains to be specifically identified.

4. Causes edema

In addition to loss of appetite, weight loss and abdominal distension, patients may also experience vomiting, fever and severe abdominal pain, and in the later stages may even lead to edema of the abdomen and limbs.

5. Irregular menstruation

The previously regular menstruation has now become completely irregular, often making women feel flustered; irregular menstruation is also one of the factors that lead to ovarian cysts.

6. Miscarriage or premature birth

If the ovarian tumor is relatively large, it may squeeze the female uterus, thereby affecting the growth of the uterus and eventually causing miscarriage or premature birth.
