What are the dangers of cervical hypertrophy?

Cervical hypertrophy is a manifestation of chronic cervicitis. In many cases, it is an inflammatory change caused by pathogen infection. For women, it will cause increased vaginal discharge, frequent urination, urgency and pain, or symptoms of cervical congestion and edema, and will also affect women's fertility.

1. Cervical hypertrophy is a type of chronic cervicitis. Inflammatory changes caused by pathogens infecting the cervical mucosa. The pathogens that cause cervical hypertrophy include mycoplasma, chlamydia, bacteria, and viruses. It is recommended that you go to the hospital's gynecology department to have a cervical secretion examination and receive symptomatic treatment based on the examination results. If necessary, a cervical TCT examination can be performed to rule out early cervical cancer. Simple cervical hypertrophy will not affect pregnancy, but severe cervicitis can cause endometritis, salpingo-oophoritis, fallopian tube adhesions and blockage, leading to infertility.

2. After pregnancy, due to hormonal changes, it may be difficult to determine whether cervical hypertrophy still exists. Severe cervical hypertrophy may affect delivery. Pregnant women should receive treatment if their platelet count continues to decrease during pregnancy. If it remains at a certain level, they can be observed.

3. Increased vaginal discharge: The typical symptom of patients with cervical hypertrophy is increased vaginal discharge. In acute cervicitis, the leucorrhea is purulent, accompanied by pain in the lower abdomen and lumbosacral area, or bladder irritation symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and pain when urinating. The leucorrhea of chronic cervicitis is milky white mucus or light yellow pus.

4. Cervical congestion and edema: Acute inflammation may cause cervical congestion, edema or erosion, with purulent secretions discharged from the cervical canal, and pain may occur when the cervix is touched. Chronic cervicitis may show varying degrees of erosion, hypertrophy, polyps, glandular cysts, and ectropion of the cervix, or purulent secretions at the cervical opening and a hard cervix upon palpation. If it is cervical erosion or polyp, there may be contact bleeding.
