What the hell? Why don't many women have hair here?

Pubic hair is a sign of the maturity of female reproductive organs, but many people don’t understand why some women don’t grow pubic hair? Let’s learn more about it.

Pubic hair is one of the signs of sexual development and generally coincides with the beginning of breast development.

Pubic hair growth can be divided into 5 stages:

Stage 1: Before the age of 11, there is no pubic hair growth, and only fine, light-colored hair is seen on the mons pubis, which is called the childish type.

The second stage: 11-12 years old, pubic hair begins to grow under the stimulation of sex hormones, first on the labia majora and then on the mons pubis, with light-colored, sparse, soft and straight pubic hair.

The third stage: 12-13 years old, the color of pubic hair darkens, and begins to become denser, harder, thicker, longer, and curled, covering the pubic triangle area.

The fourth stage: 13-14 years old, it continues to become thicker, approaching the appearance of an adult female, with its upper limit mostly limited to the mons pubis, not yet extending to the inner thighs, and no longer expanding upward.

The fifth stage: 14-15 years old, the pubic hair is dense and spreads widely, covering the entire vulva, extending along the pubic bone to cover the labia majora, meeting at the anus, and reaching the inner thighs, showing the typical pubic hair of an adult female.

Differences in hair growth between men and women

Armpit hair appears relatively late and is usually the last to appear in the development of a woman's secondary sexual characteristics. Most of them don't grow until after the age of 17.

The growth of human hair is mainly controlled and restricted by androgens and estrogens, which have specific stimulating or inhibitory effects on the growth of hair in different parts of the body. As a result, the distribution of hair in men and women is different. However, other primates rarely have such gender differences, and the mystery is still difficult to explain. For example, estrogen promotes hair growth, while androgen inhibits the growth of hair on both sides of the forehead. Therefore, men's hair is not as thick as women's and has a specific concave hairline. For example, androgens stimulate the growth of beards and chest hair, while estrogens inhibit their growth, so men have beards and chest hair (rare in Asians), while women have neither.

Both estrogen and androgen stimulate armpit hair and pubic hair, so both men and women grow armpit hair and pubic hair (although the distribution characteristics of pubic hair are different between men and women). The growth of body hair in men and women is mainly controlled by androgens (dehydroepiandrosterone) secreted by the adrenal cortex. When a woman's adrenal cortex function is low, she will experience hair loss, which can be restored by injecting androgen. When a man has his testicles removed, his beard stops growing, but his armpit and pubic hair remain unchanged.

So why do some women have no pubic hair or armpit hair?

One of the reasons is that women have lower levels of androgen in their bodies.

The second reason is that the androgen receptors in the pubic and axillary hair follicles are insensitive to androgen or have other defects, or some women do not have such receptors at all.

When pubic and axillary hair is extremely sparse or absent, it is called hypotrichosis, which occurs in about 2.5% of the population. The endocrine system, menstrual cycle, sexual characteristics development, sexual function and fertility of most women with hypotrichosis are normal. Therefore, hypotrichosis is physiological and will not affect their health and happy marriage life. There is no need to be heartbroken about it, and do not believe in rumors and lies and be swayed by feudal superstitions. I hope that in the future, family breakups and even suicide tragedies will no longer occur because of this.

It is worth mentioning that there are also very few cases of hypotrichosis that are pathological, such as a genetic disease called Turner syndrome, which is a sex chromosome abnormality. The patient's chromosomes are mostly 45, X, with one less sex chromosome, which is caused by the non-disjunction or loss of sex chromosomes during the maturation of sex cells. Female patients with this condition have gonadal insufficiency, characterized by short stature, webbed neck, underdeveloped breasts, immature external genitalia, and little or no hair on the mons pubis. They also suffer from amenorrhea due to the absence of ovarian follicles. Although they can have sexual intercourse, they are infertile. Women with hypothyroidism have no armpit hair and sparse pubic hair. They can have sex but their sexual desire is significantly reduced.

Simple gonadal dysgenesis is also accompanied by hypotrichosis, and fertility can be restored after treatment of mild cases. Heavy hemorrhage in women after childbirth can cause Sheehan's syndrome, a disease characterized by hypopituitarism. Patients will become extremely emaciated, suffer from amenorrhea, infertility, gradual loss of hair and pubic hair, weakness, and a very decreased libido. However, these lesions themselves are often accompanied by other obvious symptoms, and people often seek medical treatment due to other problems. If you find that hypotrichosis is accompanied by more changes in other body functions, do not take it lightly. It is best to go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible and receive symptomatic treatment or management.
