Can I give birth naturally if my fetus is in an abnormal position?

Generally speaking, malposition of the fetus will affect natural delivery, so caesarean section is often chosen for this phenomenon. However, if the malposition of the fetus is corrected in time during pregnancy, it will not affect natural delivery. It should be noted that sometimes malposition of the fetus can lead to difficult labor, in which case surgical assistance is required. If the fetus is in an malposition and correct measures are not taken during delivery, it may even threaten the lives of the mother and fetus.

Normal fetal position - occiput anterior position: the fetus's back is facing forward and the chest is backward, the hands are crossed in front of the chest, the legs are curled, the head is bent, and the occipital part is the lowest. Medically, this is called the occiput anterior position, which is the normal fetal position. If other parts of the fetus are located at the bottom of the female pelvis, it is medically called malposition of the fetus. There are two common malpositions of the fetus: breech presentation and transverse presentation. If the fetus is in an malposition, it may cause dystocia. Pregnant women must pay special attention to this.

Abnormal fetal position can be adjusted in advance with the assistance of a doctor. If it cannot be adjusted, cesarean section should be chosen as much as possible. Pregnant women with breech presentation may consider natural birth as appropriate. If the fetal position has not been corrected after 8 months of pregnancy, then auxiliary means are needed to correct the fetal position. Generally, the method of correcting the fetal position is a common self-correction method for pregnant women. The specific method is: the pregnant woman kneels on the hard bed board, with her chest pressed against the bed surface, her hands stretched forward, her head tilted to one side, her hips raised, and her thighs kept perpendicular to the bed surface. The hips must not be pressed on the calves, otherwise there will be no effect. Maintain this posture for 15-30 minutes each time, 3 times a day. It is recommended that pregnant women with malpositioned fetuses must undergo surgery under the guidance of professionals.

There are many reasons that can lead to malposition of the fetus. For example, some female friends have underdeveloped uterus, some female friends may have deformed uterus, or the pelvis is too narrow, or there is a tumor in the pelvis. These factors can lead to malposition of the fetus. In addition, if there is too much amniotic fluid after pregnancy, or if the fetus is deformed, malposition of the fetus may also occur.
