Are pregnant women more afraid of heat than ordinary people?

Many women find themselves particularly afraid of high temperatures during pregnancy. They sweat a lot without much activity. Moreover, it is the hottest time of the year and they are so hot that they have no appetite. So why are pregnant women more afraid of high temperatures than ordinary people? What are some good ways to cool down if pregnant women are afraid of high temperatures? Let’s follow Dr. Huang from Xiya Creation to take a look.

Reasons why pregnant women are afraid of high temperatures:

1.Basal metabolism

After a pregnant woman becomes pregnant, her body's basal metabolism changes and becomes more vigorous than before, so the skin releases more heat than before. The blood volume of pregnant women increases, the blood circulation system speeds up, the metabolism also speeds up, more energy is released, the melting point is also higher, and pregnant women are more afraid of high temperatures.

2. Effects of growth hormone during pregnancy

From the beginning of pregnancy, the mother's body temperature has been changing secretly. Generally speaking, normal body temperature is about 0.3℃-0.5℃ higher than that of ordinary people. This is because in the early stages of pregnancy, the uterus and ovaries produce progesterone, which will excrete progesterone and cause the body temperature to rise. The immune center is extremely sensitive to the effects of progesterone (also known as luteinizing hormone), and a certain amount of progesterone can cause the body temperature to rise.

3. Poor physical condition

If pregnant women sweat a lot, it is also related to their poor physical condition. In the late pregnancy, the pressure on the body will increase. If the body cannot adapt, they will sweat more and more when sleeping.

What should pregnant women do if they are afraid of high temperatures?

1. Wear loose clothes and pants

Since pregnant women have a higher basal metabolism than the average person, they sweat a lot. Therefore, when choosing clothes, you should focus on loose clothes that are conducive to sweating. In addition to being relatively cool, good ventilation is also a key point of selection.

2. Keep your diet light as much as possible

Pregnant women with a more irritable physique should try to choose light and fresh foods in their diet, such as noodles, cold yam, kelp shreds, etc., which can better increase their appetite during pregnancy. Eat less hot foods, such as lychees, durian, sesame oil chicken, beef, etc., which are all relatively hot foods. Try to avoid eating them in summer to prevent getting angry.

3. Take a bath frequently

Pregnant women who sweat a lot should usually take a bath and change clothes more frequently. They can use warm water to wipe the body and keep the skin clean. The temperature should also be controlled well. Do not take a shower with cold water, and the shower time should not exceed 20 minutes.

4. Drink plenty of water

Because a lot of sweating causes a lot of water to flow out, pregnant women who sweat frequently should drink more water to maintain the body's water supply.

5. Don’t forget natural ventilation when using air conditioning

In summer, many families have turned on the central air conditioner. Pregnant women do not need to set the temperature too low when using the air conditioner, generally around 26-27℃. Long-term use of the central air conditioner will be relatively dry. It is recommended to put a basin of water in the room or use an air humidifier. In addition, staying in the central air-conditioned room for a long time is not good for pregnant women. You can choose to turn off the central air conditioner in the morning when it is not very hot, open the windows for ventilation, and keep the indoor air quality circulating.
