What are the treatments for postpartum mastitis?

Every woman will experience breast swelling after pregnancy. As the belly grows larger and the fetus grows, the breasts are preparing for breastfeeding until the birth process. Many mothers do not breastfeed their children in time, which causes blockage in the mammary glands and prevents the discharge of fluid, thus forming mastitis. This is a very common occurrence and can cause breast swelling and pain in mothers. Be careful about mastitis at this time. What are the treatments for mastitis in mothers?

When acute mastitis occurs, breastfeeding should generally not be stopped, because stopping breastfeeding not only affects infant feeding, but also increases the chance of milk stasis. Therefore, when you feel breast pain, swelling or even local redness of the skin, not only should you not stop breastfeeding, but you should also feed your baby frequently so that the baby can drink up as much milk as possible from your breasts.

When localized breast suppuration occurs, breastfeeding should be stopped on the affected breast, and the milk should be drained out using conventional milking techniques or a breast pump to facilitate smooth milk discharge. At the same time, the baby can still drink breast milk from the other healthy breast. Breastfeeding should be completely stopped only in cases of severe infection or after abscess incision and drainage, or when breast atrophy occurs, and active measures to stop milk production should be taken as prescribed by the doctor.

Mastitis, commonly known as "milk trouble", is a common disease in the early stages of breastfeeding. It not only brings pain to the mother, but also causes discomfort to the baby, directly affecting the baby's breastfeeding.

The main causes of mastitis are milk stasis, prolonged retention time, liver-stomach disharmony, mental unhappiness, nipple rupture, deformity, and inability to empty milk. Therefore, to solve this problem, we must first strengthen prevention and control work. Starting from the late pregnancy, you should frequently use warm water to clean your nipples. After delivery, in addition to frequently massaging the breasts from top to bottom, you can also perform some appropriate lactation-inducing activities. However, you should never simply induce lactation. You should combine lactation induction with lactation regulation.

You can breastfeed your baby half an hour after delivery, but don't let your baby fall asleep with the nipple in his mouth. When there is too much milk and the baby cannot suck it all, the remaining milk can be discharged. At the same time, the mother's diet after childbirth should be light, and she should not eat too much fish, meat, or eggs to avoid heat in the stomach (Traditional Chinese Medicine). If the mother is already ill and the symptoms are severe, such as pain, pus discharge, or staphylococcal infection, breastfeeding should be stopped immediately, another feeding method should be adopted, and the mother should be hospitalized immediately for treatment.

Regarding the treatment of postpartum mastitis, first of all, mothers must pay attention to the maintenance of their bodies. If you want to stop breastfeeding your child, you should relieve your breast pain more often and squeeze out the excess milk. Remember not to let milk remain in the breasts for a long time to prevent the occurrence of mastitis.
