What to do with pelvic mesothelioma?

I don’t know if you have ever heard of a disease called mesothelioma. This disease is relatively rare because there are very few conditions for its onset. Most mesothelioma is caused by working in an asbestos environment for a long time, breathing in too much asbestos, or living in a family environment exposed to asbestos. Therefore, most people will not get mesothelioma, and mesothelioma can occur in different parts of the body. So, what is pelvic mesothelioma?

In rare cases, even one month of exposure to asbestos may lead to mesothelioma. The National Cancer Institute defines mesothelioma as: Mesothelioma is a rare, malignant cancer in which cells are found in the mesothelium. Most people with mesothelioma inhale asbestos particles while working in an environment where asbestos is present. Mesothelioma often develops in the lungs or abdomen. Although the disease usually takes decades to develop after exposure to asbestos, once mesothelioma appears it will spread and worsen very quickly.

Because the symptoms of mesothelioma are very similar to other milder diseases, and the interval between onset of this disease is very long, mesothelioma patients usually have to wait until the disease attacks before they feel the various symptoms... What is mesothelioma? Pleural mesothelioma is a primary tumor of the pleura, which can be divided into localized (mostly benign) and diffuse (all malignant) types. Among them, diffuse malignant mesothelioma is one of the tumors with the worst prognosis in the chest. The most common initial symptoms are chest pain, cough and shortness of breath. There are also patients with fever, sweating or joint pain as the main symptoms.

About half of the patients have a large amount of pleural effusion accompanied by severe shortness of breath. Those without a large amount of pleural effusion often have more severe chest pain and common weight loss. Ordinary chest X-rays can reveal pleural effusion and the lungs are wrapped by tumor tissue. In advanced cases, there may be an enlarged cardiac shadow caused by pericardial effusion, soft tissue shadows, and rib destruction. CT examination is most useful for patients with suspected malignant pleural mesothelioma. Cytological examination of pleural effusion is also helpful for diagnosis. In routine laboratory tests, some patients may have thrombocytosis and elevated serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). For those who cannot make a clear diagnosis through routine examinations, thoracoscopy can be used for pleural biopsy. Generally, most patients can be diagnosed in this way.

There is still no effective radical treatment for malignant pleural mesothelioma. The treatment methods include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It is generally believed that radical pleuropulmonary resection is recommended for patients with relatively localized tumors in stage I. Radical surgery is meaningless for patients in stages II, III and IV. Only palliative surgery can be performed. Most patients are between 40 and 70 years old, and more men than women.

Through the above editor’s introduction to pelvic mesothelioma, I believe everyone has a preliminary understanding of this disease. Mesothelioma is not easy to occur, so you don’t have to worry about getting this disease. However, if this disease occurs, everyone should go to the hospital for examination in time. After the disease is clear, surgery can be performed to remove it according to the severity of the disease.
