How many days after menstruation is considered a safe period?

Female friends basically ovulate once a month, and it is easy to conceive about a week before and after ovulation. If you choose to have sex at this time, the chance of pregnancy will greatly increase, which is called the dangerous period. Most female friends are in the safe period when their menstruation just ends. Let us learn about how many days of women's safe period is after their menstruation ends.

The safe period corresponds to the fertile period. We all know that the first step in conception is the combination of sperm and egg to form a fertilized egg.

A woman usually releases only one egg during one menstrual cycle, and the egg's ability to conceive (i.e. survival) is only 24-48 hours after it is released from the ovary (waiting for fertilization in the fallopian tube). The lifespan of sperm in the female reproductive tract is about 2-3 days, so conception is possible if you have sexual intercourse 2-3 days before ovulation and 1-2 days after ovulation. This period is called the fertile period, also called the "dangerous period" or the conception period.

Ovarian ovulation usually occurs within 2 days before or after the 14th day of menstruation (the specific ovulation period is calculated according to the menstrual cycle), and the ovulation day is usually the few days in the middle of the two menstrual periods. It is impossible to conceive during the period when ovulation does not occur. When ovulation occurs, fertilization can only occur when it encounters sperm. The entire period is approximately within 10 days after menstruation, and from the 20th day after menstruation to the next menstruation. The closer to the menstrual period, the greater the possibility of contraception.

The dangerous period is the fertile period (ovulation period), which is a few days before and after the ovulation day. To be on the safe side, we call the 5 days before and 4 days after ovulation, together with the ovulation day, a total of 10 days, the ovulation period. It is easier to get pregnant if you have sex during the ovulation period. The dangerous period only refers to contraception. If you plan to have a child, you must arrange sexual intercourse during this period.

The egg's ability to conceive is only 24 hours at most after ovulation, while the lifespan of sperm is about 3-4 days. Ovulation can sometimes occur a few days earlier or later, so the dangerous period should be extended by a few days, which is "five or six days before ovulation to two or three days after ovulation." Ovulation usually occurs between two menstrual periods.

If menstruation comes every 28-30 days, then the ovulation day is around the 14th to 16th day of menstruation. In this way, you can roughly calculate the dangerous period (i.e. conception period, ovulation period)

In addition, there is a universal and simple quick calculation method: "The longest menstrual cycle minus 11, the shortest cycle minus 18", and the dangerous period in between is the period of pregnancy and ovulation. For example, if menstruation comes every 28-30 days, 30-11=19, 28-18=10, the dangerous period is from the 11th to the 19th day of menstruation.

When a woman's menstruation is not very regular, she can use the safe period calculation formula to estimate it. However, the safe period and the dangerous period are relative. It just means that the chance of pregnancy during the safe period will decrease, but it cannot rule out the possibility of pregnancy. Therefore, it is best to take safer contraceptive measures in normal times.
