Can anemia cause delayed menstruation?

Can anemia cause delayed menstruation?

Anemia is particularly common among women, and the incidence is highest among young women who do not eat breakfast. Many people feel that anemia does not cause them any inconvenience, at most causing occasional dizziness. This only means that the anemia is not very serious, so it does not cause any adverse effects. But by the time the adverse effects occur, it is too late. The most direct impact of anemia on women is probably menstruation, which can cause delayed menstruation and unstable menstrual flow.

For example, examination of iron metabolism in iron deficiency anemia and examination of the primary disease causing iron deficiency; determination of serum folate and vitamin B12 levels in megaloblastic anemia and examination of the primary disease causing the deficiency of such hematopoietic raw materials; examination of the primary disease in hemorrhagic anemia; hemolytic anemia may result in increased free hemoglobin, decreased haptoglobin, increased blood potassium, and increased indirect bilirubin, etc., all of which can help understand the condition of anemia.

Extravascular hemolysis results in bilirubin-free hyperbilirubinuria; intravascular hemolysis results in hemoglobinuria and hemosiderinuria. In severe cases, free hemoglobin may even block the renal tubules, causing oliguria, anuria, and acute renal failure. Long-term anemia affects the secretion of testosterone and weakens male characteristics. For women, it affects the secretion of female hormones and causes menstrual abnormalities, such as amenorrhea or menorrhagia. Decreased libido is common in both men and women. Long-term anemia will affect the function of various endocrine glands and the secretion of erythropoietin.

For patients with anemia, dietary supplements are very important. Because replenishing blood through food supplements has no side effects and is healthier. Everyone knows that we should eat more blood-enriching and blood-forming foods, but we should pay attention to eating less high-fat foods. Because foods with high fat content can affect hematopoiesis, they are not conducive to the recovery of anemia patients.
