What is anovulatory bleeding?

What is anovulatory bleeding?

A woman's ovaries produce an egg every month. If the egg is not fertilized, it will be expelled from the body, forming menstruation. Menstruation is also a period of blood loss for women, but it is not advisable to eat blood-enriching foods during menstruation. You can eat some appropriately after menstruation. But sometimes, bleeding also occurs during the non-ovulation period. What is the reason for this? Today, the editor will tell you some related common sense.

The occurrence of normal menstruation is based on the atrophy of the corpus luteum after ovulation. The withdrawal of estrogen and progesterone causes the functional layer of the endometrium to shrink and necrotize, resulting in shedding and bleeding. Normal menstruation shows obvious regularity and self-limitation. When the body is affected by various internal and external factors, such as mental stress, eating disorders, excessive exercise, alcoholism and other drugs, it can cause abnormal regulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis function or target cell effects through the cerebral cortex and central nervous system, leading to menstrual disorders.

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding can also cause women to bleed during anovulatory periods and is characterized by abnormal uterine bleeding with menstrual irregularities. It is divided into two types: anovulation and ovulation. Clinically, the anovulation type is the most common, accounting for 70% to 80% of functional uterine bleeding. It is common in adolescence and menopausal transition period. It is a common gynecological disease. Heavy bleeding or repeated bleeding can cause varying degrees of anemia and even require hysterectomy.

Anovulation caused by various reasons can lead to the endometrium being stimulated by estrogen alone without progesterone opposition, resulting in estrogen breakthrough bleeding or withdrawal bleeding. There are two types of estrogen breakthrough bleeding: low levels of estrogen are maintained at the threshold level, intermittent small amounts of bleeding may occur, the endometrium repair is slow, and the bleeding time is prolonged; high levels of estrogen are maintained at an effective concentration, causing long-term amenorrhea. Because there is no progesterone involved, the endometrium is thickened but not firm, and acute breakthrough bleeding is prone to occur, with a large amount of bleeding.

Many women also experience various discomforts during their menstrual period. Mild abdominal pain is not a big deal, but if the symptoms of dysmenorrhea occur for a long time, it is abnormal and requires timely medical treatment. Women's bodies become fragile due to menstrual blood loss. Therefore, women should take better care of themselves during menstruation, not eat casually, and keep warm.
