What causes thick and white vaginal discharge?

White and sticky leucorrhea and severe itching indicate a high possibility of candidal vaginitis. You should go to the hospital for a routine checkup of your vaginal discharge. After the diagnosis is confirmed, you can use sodium bicarbonate solution to clean every night and then use nystatin suppositories for treatment. If the topical medication is ineffective, you can also take drugs such as fluconazole.

Monilial or mycotic vaginitis is caused by fungal infection, and its incidence is second only to Trichomonas vaginitis. Candidal vaginitis is more common in young girls, pregnant women, diabetic patients, and postmenopausal patients who have been treated with high doses of estrogen.

【Treatment measures】

1. Change the acidity and alkalinity of the vagina, such as flushing the vagina with alkaline drugs, or flushing the vagina with 2-4% soda solution to change the living environment of mold.

2. Administration of fungicides:

1. Nystatin vaginal suppository (containing 250,000 U of nystatin) is inserted deep into the vagina, once in the morning and evening or once every night for 2 weeks.

2. Take 500,000 U of nystatin orally, 4 times a day.

3. Apply compound nystatin cold cream topically twice a day.

4. Take ketoconazole 400 mg orally, twice a day for 5 days.

5. Trichomycin. See the treatment of trichomoniasis for details. In addition, oral administration of clotrimazole or clobendazole 0.5-1g 3 times a day, or topical application of 1-5% ointment, cream or lotion 3-4 times a day, also has good therapeutic effects.

6. Topical application of 1-2% gentian violet solution is a long-standing treatment that is very effective and widely used, but it has the disadvantage of contaminating underwear.

Pregnant women with candidal vaginitis may recover after delivery, but the newborn is at risk of infection, so timely treatment is still needed, preferably with local medication, using the same method as above.

3. Male carriers must also receive routine treatment, which is one of the important measures to prevent recurrence of female patients.

It is recommended that women should pay attention to personal hygiene. It is best to change their bras and underwear every day. Moreover, the underwear should not be washed with other clothes. Instead, they should be washed with professional disinfectants. This can kill the bacteria on them and avoid infection. After defecation, you should also wipe off the bacteria in the anus to prevent bacterial invasion.
