It is best not to wear an IUD during breastfeeding

Many female friends usually have a certain time interval for the second child after giving birth. Some female friends can't get pregnant again after giving birth to the first child. Even if the second-child policy is now open, raising a child takes a lot of time and energy, so contraceptive measures after giving birth have always been a matter of concern to everyone.

Why is it best not to wear an IUD during breastfeeding?

Although the IUD is a very good contraceptive method, it is usually necessary to take medicine after the operation, and these medicines are not good for the child's body. And there is a certain amount of recovery time after the IUD is inserted, and the body's recovery will compete with the baby for nutrients.

Generally speaking, the IUD will not affect women's breast milk secretion. However, since most women need to take antiviral drugs after having an IUD inserted, and antiviral drugs will be absorbed by the baby through breast milk and cause certain side effects, it is recommended to stop breastfeeding for a period of time. During this period, women are advised to express breast milk through manual breast pumping, etc., to avoid less milk secretion in the future and reduce breast pain caused by excessive milk secretion that cannot be cleared in time.

It is generally recommended that women insert the IUD 7 days after their menstrual period ends after their period has returned to normal, and they should not have sex during this period. However, some women, although they do not have menstruation during breastfeeding, still have ovulation, so if they are not careful, they can easily become pregnant. This is the so-called "hidden pregnancy". Therefore, if you do not have menstruation after giving birth, it is best to get an IUD after 3 months. If it is a caesarean section, it is recommended to get an IUD six months after giving birth.

For the happy growth of your baby, it is best not to use an IUD during breastfeeding. If you need to take contraceptive measures during breastfeeding, do not use condoms. Condoms are currently the mainstream form of contraception, and their effectiveness is no less than that of IUDs. Condoms not only have the effect of birth control, but also have the effect of preventing various gynecological diseases.

Can women get an IUD while breastfeeding?

During the breastfeeding period, if the uterus has been repaired and there are no other physical diseases, the IUD can be inserted. Normally, the IUD will not affect the secretion of milk. However, you must take anti-inflammatory drugs after inserting the IUD, so women cannot breastfeed their babies immediately after the IUD is inserted. It will be safer to breastfeed their babies after stopping the medication for one week to half a month.

It is not recommended for women to wear an IUD when they have just given birth, because at this time the lochia has not been completely discharged and the uterus has not yet recovered. At this time, the IUD is prone to infection and is not conducive to the discharge of lochia. It is better for pregnant women who choose natural childbirth to have an IUD inserted three months after giving birth. If it is a caesarean section, the IUD needs to be inserted six months after giving birth, as recovery from a caesarean section will be slower.
