What happens if the menstrual flow is small after miscarriage?

Abortion is very harmful to women's bodies. It can cause irregular menstruation, lower abdominal pain, and even some patients experience a gradual decrease in menstrual volume. How can we avoid this situation? Let us understand what it will be like to have less menstrual volume after abortion and how to solve it.

The causes and pathologies of oligomenorrhea include both deficiency and excess. Deficiency is mostly due to physical weakness, serious illness, long-term illness, blood loss, or diet and fatigue that damage the spleen, or sexual fatigue that damages the kidneys, which leads to deficiency of the blood sea and reduced menstrual volume; excess is mostly due to blood stasis in the body, or phlegm and dampness stagnation, which block the meridians, poor blood circulation, and reduced menstrual blood volume.

If the menstrual cycle is basically normal but the menstrual flow is significantly reduced, or even stops with a few drops, or the menstrual period is shortened to less than two days and the menstrual flow is also small, it is called oligomenorrhea, also known as scanty menstruation. It is generally believed that menstrual volume less than 30 ml is equivalent to irregular menstruation in Western medicine.

The menstrual cycle is normal, with very little menstrual flow, or even just a few drops of menstrual fluid. There are also cases where the menstrual period is shortened to less than two days and the menstrual flow is also light, which are the key points for the diagnosis of this disease. This disease is often a precursor to amenorrhea. Oligomenorrhea may be associated with cycle abnormalities, such as scanty menstrual flow or scanty menstrual flow at the end of the menstrual cycle.

If oligomenorrhea is caused by oral contraceptives or intramuscular contraceptive injections, the medication should be stopped and the disease can be treated according to the discussion and treatment of this disease. The diagnosis of oligomenorrhea generally refers to two or more consecutive occurrences. If the flow is usually normal but suddenly becomes less, attention should be paid to whether it is a threatened miscarriage in the early stages of pregnancy or a small amount of vaginal bleeding due to ectopic pregnancy. Further examinations must be done to differentiate between the two.

Some drugs can cause oligomenorrhea, such as contraceptives, antipsychotic drugs, anti-tumor drugs, and drugs for the treatment of endometriosis (such as tamoxifen, danazol, and nemethicone). In addition, drugs such as tripterygium wilfordii tablets and bromocriptine can also cause oligomenorrhea. Detailed medical history should be inquired during clinical consultation.

Multiple abortions or rough surgeries that damage the basal endometrium of the uterus or uterine adhesions can cause oligomenorrhea, so it is also necessary to inquire about the abortion procedures. Postpartum hemorrhage sometimes first manifests as oligomenorrhea, followed by amenorrhea.

Simple oligomenorrhea with anovulatory functional uterine bleeding is relatively rare and is sometimes a precursor to anovulatory amenorrhea. Polycystic ovary syndrome can also be seen in oligomenorrhea, often accompanied by late menstruation, weight gain, and then amenorrhea. Premature ovarian failure also first manifests as scanty menstruation, followed by amenorrhea.

The above is the situation of light menstrual flow after miscarriage. Menstruation has a certain cycle. Irregular menstruation is a very normal phenomenon just after miscarriage. However, if this phenomenon continues in a vicious cycle for a long time, it will cause great harm to our body. The toxins in the body cannot be discharged, leading to endocrine disorders, affecting the body's digestion, etc.
