Don’t take sore and tired eyes lightly!

Xiao Chen (pseudonym), 34 years old this year, found that his eyesight had been deteriorating for unknown reasons recently. As he already had a high degree of myopia, he immediately went to the eyewear store to get new glasses, but the situation did not improve.

"Recently, my eyes have often been sore and swollen, and I have also had headaches. At first I thought it was because the glasses were of the wrong degree, but after getting new glasses, these problems still occurred, so I became a little worried." Xiao Chen noticed something was wrong with his eyes and was worried that this might be a precursor to problems, so he quickly went to the glaucoma department of the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University for an examination. After the doctor's diagnosis, Xiao Chen was diagnosed with glaucoma.

Sun Chong, deputy chief physician and deputy director of the Glaucoma Department of the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University, reminds: Glaucoma develops rapidly and may cause blindness at any time. If it is not diagnosed and treated in time, it will cause serious harm to our eye health. Therefore, we must prevent, detect and treat glaucoma early!

What symptoms do people with glaucoma experience?

Typical symptoms of glaucoma are sore eyes, loss of vision, nerve damage and blurred vision. When glaucoma attacks acutely, patients will experience severe headaches, eye pain, even nausea, vomiting, sharp decline in vision, blurred vision, etc., and the eyes may have eyelid edema, mixed hemorrhage, corneal epithelial edema and other symptoms.

However, some glaucoma patients do not have obvious symptoms, and only show abnormal color vision and reduced visual contrast sensitivity. Once you find that your eyes have the above conditions, you should go to the hospital for examination in time and cooperate with the doctor's treatment to avoid irreparable damage.

Wu Zuohong, deputy chief physician, member of the Glaucoma Group of the Hubei Ophthalmological Society, and director of the Glaucoma Department of the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University, said: You must not take your eyes lightly. Everyone should understand the relevant knowledge of glaucoma, prevent it correctly, and go to the hospital regularly for relevant examinations. If you find that you have glaucoma, don't be afraid, seek medical attention as soon as possible. If you are not diagnosed and treated in time, it is very likely to cause iris atrophy, cataracts and other eye diseases, which will further endanger eye health.
