Is it normal to have lochia sometimes or not half a month after giving birth?

After giving birth, mothers are severely weakened and lack vitamin A. Many mothers experience postpartum lochia for more than ten days after giving birth, and this phenomenon sometimes occurs intermittently. So, is it normal to have intermittent lochia for more than ten days after giving birth? Next, the editor will explain these aspects in detail for everyone.

1. What is the cause of postpartum lochia after giving birth?

It is the continuous lochia of postpartum women. If the postpartum lochia does not stop when it is due, and the amount is large, the color is light, the texture is thin, and there is no odor; the face is pale, the spirit is tired and lazy, the limbs are weak, and the lower abdomen is empty, then use Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang with mugwort leaves, donkey-hide gelatin cake, and motherwort granules. If the lochia is not clean, the amount is sometimes small or sometimes large, the color is dark and there are lumps, the lower abdomen hurts and refuses to be pressed, the tongue is dark purple or has bruises on the edges, then use Biochemical Decoction with Motherwort Granules and Fried Pollen. If the lochia of a postpartum woman does not stop after the due date, the amount is large, the color is purple-red, the texture is thick, and there is an odor; the face is flushed, the mouth and throat are dry; then Baoyin Decoction must be used for treatment.

2. Is it normal to have intermittent lochia for more than ten days after giving birth?

This situation is normal. It usually takes about half a month for the lochia after giving birth to clear up. If there is a lot of brown color, do a B-ultrasound follow-up to see if there is blood stasis in the uterine cavity. If so, take some Shaofu Zhuyu granules for treatment.

3. How to discharge postpartum lochia?

In fact, after delivery, the discharge of lochia will be beneficial to the recovery of the pregnant woman's body, but the discharge of lochia will vary from person to person. For example, due to different physical conditions, the time it takes to discharge lochia after giving birth will also vary. Generally speaking, it takes about 3 weeks (21 days) after delivery to completely discharge the lochia. However, some pregnant women may be able to completely excrete within 2 weeks, while some pregnant women may not be able to completely excrete until around 6 weeks.

There will also be differences in the time it takes for lochia to be discharged between women who choose natural childbirth and cesarean section. Generally speaking, it will take longer for women who have cesarean section to discharge postpartum lochia. This is because after a cesarean section, the contraction force of the uterus is not as good as that of a woman who chooses natural childbirth. However, if a woman's lochia discharge has lasted for more than seven weeks, it is best to go to the hospital for a check-up to see what is causing the discharge to take so long.

Under normal circumstances, the lochia after giving birth will be discharged in about a month. Whether the lochia is discharged completely and the recovery time are closely related to the rest state of the pregnant woman and the state of uterine contraction. If the bleeding is basically clear at this stage, you can continue to rest, but if it is not clear yet, or you have stomach pain, it is best to do an ultrasound.
