Early symptoms of high blood sugar in pregnant women

Many pregnant mothers should know that there are some common manifestations of hyperglycemia in pregnant women. Even a slight hyperglycemia in pregnant women is harmful, so we must understand the symptoms of hyperglycemia in advance and treat them in time when discovered. Worried about high blood sugar? Don’t worry, let’s take a look at the symptoms of high blood sugar in pregnant women!

1. Polyuria: This refers not only to an increase in the frequency of urination, but also a continuous increase in urination, which may occur more than 20 times in 24 hours, with urination reaching 2-3 liters or even as much as 10 liters. The urine is foamy, white and sticky. Frequent urination is caused by increased blood sugar, which exceeds the renal glucose threshold (8.9-10mmol/l). The amount of sugar excreted in the urine increases, thus increasing the frequency and amount of urination.

2. Polydipsia: Polyuria reduces the body's water content, causing the dry mouth nerve center in the brain to become excited and cause the person to want to drink. It should be emphasized that the diagnostic criteria for diabetes are significantly lower than the renal glucose threshold, so diabetes may be diagnosed before polyuria occurs. On the other hand, the elderly have renal artery sclerosis, which increases the renal glucose threshold, so the blood sugar level is very high, but the urine is low in sugar and there is no frequent urination. Secondly, the sensitivity of the elderly's nerve center is weakened. Although the body loses a lot of water, the nerve center has no feeling of dry mouth and has no appetite. This is the reason why diabetic non-ketotic hyperosmolar coma is common among the elderly and has a high mortality rate.

3. Overeating: Because blood sugar cannot enter the body cells and cannot be used by the body cells, it stimulates the hunger center in the brain to become excited and cause overeating, and there is no sense of fullness after eating, resulting in a significant increase in meal frequency and meal volume. It should be noted that in the early stages of type 2 diabetes, due to the association with hyperglargine insulinuria, blood sugar levels are accelerated, resulting in a significant feeling of hunger before meals and even hypoglycemia, which is often the forerunner of type 2 diabetes.

4. Weight loss: Reduced glucose utilization in the body, increased fat burning, insufficient protein synthesis, accelerated decomposition, etc., all lead to weight loss. If there are symptoms of polyuria, the loss of body water will aggravate the symptoms of weight loss. Similarly, the longer the history of the disease, the higher the blood sugar level; the more serious the condition, the more obvious the weight loss.

5. Fatigue: Blood sugar cannot enter the body cells, causing the cells to lack energy. It is reported that 2/3 of diabetic patients have symptoms of fatigue, which even exceeds the number of obese people.

6. Susceptible to infection: Diabetes affects the immune function, resulting in reduced resistance, making it easy to develop skin scabies, various inflammations of the respiratory and urinary tract systems, and difficult to treat.
