After giving birth to a baby, women need to take a confinement period to allow their bodies to recover as quickly as possible. After all, pregnancy and childbirth can cause great harm to women's physical health. Many women will find a feeling of heaviness and pain in the urethra after giving birth. There are many reasons for this phenomenon, such as urethral infection after giving birth, or excessive lochia that irritates the urethra. Postpartum urethral pain The feeling of heaviness and pain in the urethra after childbirth may be due to the excessive lochia after childbirth, which stimulates the urethra. It is recommended to pay attention to the cleanliness of the lower body, drink more water, and more urine will naturally flush the urethral opening. If there is a feeling of falling, it is recommended to apply local hot compress to see if it can relieve the symptoms. Pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene, get enough rest, and increase nutrition appropriately. If it does not relieve the symptoms, it is best to go to the hospital for an ultrasound examination and then do a routine urine test to see if there is pelvic inflammatory disease or pelvic effusion. Postpartum urethral care: 1. Give antibiotics and antispasmodics as prescribed by your doctor to make the urine sterile and alkaline, soothe the easily irritated bladder and relieve symptoms. Once the acute infection has resolved, antibiotics should be continued for two weeks. One week after stopping antibiotics, urine culture should be repeated and follow-up examinations should be performed regularly within 1 year after infection. 2. Encourage mothers to drink plenty of water, 2500 to 4000 ml per day, to help flush the bladder, dilute the bacteria in the urine, and help reduce fever. 3. Rest in bed during the acute phase, and you can get out of bed and walk around after the symptoms are alleviated. 4. Eat nutritious, easily digestible and less irritating foods to enhance your physical fitness. 5. Clean the perineum after defecation, wipe from front to back when using toilet paper, wear cotton underwear to facilitate ventilation, and it is best to take a shower. Prevention of postpartum urinary tract infection Avoid overfilling the bladder to prevent urinary tract infections In the postpartum period, caregivers should carefully assess the height of the uterine fundus, the amount of lochia, and signs of urinary retention: including the rise of the uterine fundus and its position shifting to the right, increased vaginal bleeding, a mass above the pubic symphysis (full bladder) on palpation, excessive reverberation on percussion of the enlarged bladder, and residual urine volume exceeding 60 ml. Various methods are used to enable the parturient to urinate on her own, such as using analgesics, listening to the sound of running water, flushing the perineum with warm water, applying pressure to the pubic symphysis, using suppositories, etc. When the mother is unable to urinate on her own or has persistent residual urine of more than 50 ml, catheterization and indwelling urinary catheter should be performed. When the bladder and labia edema is reduced (about 24 to 48 hours), the catheter can be removed. |
