What does a positive cervical test mean?

Women's physical health is more fragile and they need regular check-ups to ensure that their bodies remain healthy over the long term. The examination of the reproductive system is the most important. Among them, the uterus and ovaries are most likely to have problems, causing great trouble to women's lives. Cervical examination is a relatively common method. Let’s take a look at what happens if the cervical examination is positive. I hope women can understand this.

Cervical screening includes cervical TCT examination and HPV examination. If the cervical screening is positive, it means that one or both of the two examinations are abnormal. This situation may indicate cervicitis, cervical erosion, cervical cancer and other diseases. Women should not worry too much. Whether they have these diseases requires further examination to be confirmed. Women should actively cooperate with doctors to complete the corresponding examinations and treatments.

In addition, if the test results are always positive, then the chance of women developing cervical cancer is very high, which requires active control of the disease as early as possible and not letting down vigilance. Moreover, women also need to pay attention to personal hygiene and physical condition in life to enhance their own immunity.

Currently, there are two screening programs for cervical cancer, one is cervical TCT and the other is cervical HPV. Generally speaking, there is no such thing as a positive TCT, or cervical liquid-based cytology test, as it can show many kinds of abnormalities. However, the results of HPV tests are divided into positive and negative. If the cervical screening indicates a positive result, it is necessary to see which specific content is abnormal. In general, when the cervical cancer screening is abnormal, further colposcopy and cervical biopsy are needed to determine whether there are cervical lesions.

If HPV is positive, it must be combined with the results of cytology, that is, the results of liquid-based cytology. 80% of women may be infected with HPV, but most women can clear it through their own immunity. If the test result is HPV16 or HPV type 18, a colposcopy is required regardless of the cytology result. If the HPV type other than type 16 or 18 is positive and the cytology result is greater than or equal to ASCU, a colposcopy is required.
