Will bacterial vaginosis heal on its own?

Bacterial vaginosis cannot heal on its own. Bacterial vaginosis is a mixed infection of Gardnerella and barbae, which leads to an imbalance of the microecological balance in the vagina, causing a syndrome of increased vaginal discharge, fishy leucorrhea, and itchy and hot vulva. It can be divided into Haemophilus vaginitis, Corynebacterium vaginitis, hypoxic bacterial vaginitis, Gardnerella vaginitis, etc. This disease can also be transmitted through sexual contact, and the incidence rate is higher among people with disordered sexual relations. Examination of the secretion smear can reveal many pus balls and find the pathogenic bacteria. It is not possible not to receive treatment.

What are the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis?

First, the characteristics of vaginal discharge

The vaginal discharge of patients with bacterial vaginosis is often grayish white, very viscous, even like paste, and uniform, but not purulent, and the amount is variable.

Second, the discharge has a fishy smell

The amine content in the vaginal discharge of women with bacterial vaginosis is particularly high. Therefore, it often has a fishy smell. During sexual intercourse or after activity, the odor is often intensified due to the release of amines. Adding 10% potassium hydroxide to the secretions can also release the amine smell.

Third, vaginal secretions can identify clue cells

Clue cells can be detected in wet smears of vaginal secretions from patients with bacterial vaginosis.

Fourth, the pH value of vaginal secretions increases

Examination of vaginal secretions of patients with bacterial vaginosis can show an increased pH value, ranging from 5.0-5.5, while the normal pH value is 4.5-4.7.

This disease can often be complicated by other vaginal sexually transmitted diseases. Therefore, its clinical manifestations may be affected by comorbidities and vary. For example, when combined with gonococcal infection, vaginal discharge may be obviously purulent, and may present urinary tract symptoms such as dysuria and dysuria; when combined with Trichomonas infection, vaginal discharge may be foamy, and the itching may be aggravated and extremely itchy; when combined with Candida infection, vaginal discharge may be curd-like or tofu-like.

Treatment of bacterial vaginosis

Couples therapy

Bacterial vaginosis is a very common disease, and this method is relatively effective. Mainly, there are those who advocate that male sexual partners of patients with bacterial vaginosis should also take a course of medication, and there are also reports that this treatment does not prevent recurrence in female patients.

Treatment of comorbidities

Experts say that if other pathogens are detected, medication should be used to target these pathogens, but the abuse of antibiotics must be avoided. When selecting drugs for reproductive tract or other systems, attention should be paid to the systemic condition of the drug. Supportive and immune-enhancing therapies can be used at the same time, and attention should be paid to adverse drug reactions.

Oral medication therapy

Traditional Chinese medicine treats vaginitis from a holistic perspective, either clearing away damp-heat, or strengthening the spleen and eliminating dampness, or nourishing the liver and kidneys, or soothing the liver and strengthening the spleen, combined with insecticidal and antipruritic effects; to solve the problem of how to treat bacterial vaginitis, while combining internal treatment with external treatment, the clinical effect is good and there are no obvious adverse side effects.

There are many treatment methods introduced above, but it is best to treat the disease together with your partner, so as to avoid mutual infection and further transmission. In addition, taking Chinese medicine internally is also effective, at least there won’t be so many side effects.
