What to do if there is excessive vaginal discharge and vulvar itching in late pregnancy

After women become pregnant, due to changes in hormones in the body, their bodies will have problems of one kind or another. For example, many pregnant women will experience increased vaginal discharge in the late pregnancy, and will also be accompanied by symptoms of vulvar itching, which has a great impact on women's daily life. However, since pregnancy is a relatively special period, when this happens, most pregnant women often don’t know what to do.

What should I do if I have excessive vaginal discharge and vulvar itching during late pregnancy?

Under normal circumstances, the secretion of sex hormones in women will increase during pregnancy, which will cause the cervical glands to proliferate and secrete more thick mucus; in addition, as the fetus gradually grows, it will compress the mother's pelvic cavity and vagina, causing related blood vessels to become congested and dilated, and will also cause an increase in vaginal mucosal exudate, resulting in an increase in vaginal secretions. No treatment is required as it is not caused by an infection. Expectant mothers can keep the area dry and clean by:

1. Clean the vulva with warm water every day to keep it clean, but do not clean the vagina.

2. Use special bath towels and basins to avoid cross infection.

3. Change your underwear every day, wash it and dry it in the sun.

If the amount of vaginal discharge increases during pregnancy, there is no need to worry. However, if the amount of vaginal discharge increases and the color of the discharge is abnormal or has an odor, you should not take it lightly. You should go to a regular hospital for relevant examinations and treatment in time. These symptoms are usually manifestations of gynecological inflammation.

Causes of vaginal itching in pregnant women

1. Due to uncomfortable clothing: for example, wearing clothes containing chemical fibers, or using menstrual belts made of plastic or rubber, which may cause itching of the vulva skin.

2. Vaginal trichomoniasis: Itching of the vulva and even the vagina accompanied by foamy leucorrhea with a special odor. In this case, you should go to the hospital for a vaginal secretion smear test.

Pregnant women should not panic if they have excessive vaginal discharge. First, they should observe the color and smell of the vaginal discharge, and feel whether there are other discomforts in the body. Then determine whether medical treatment is needed.
