How many follicles are considered polycystic ovaries

I don’t know if there are follicles in women’s ovaries, and these follicles are enough to help women release eggs. However, when there are too many follicles in women’s ovaries, it is likely to cause polycystic ovaries, because most women will only release one egg in a month, and the number of follicles released is indeed relatively large. The follicles are much smaller than those of men. So how many follicles are considered polycystic ovaries?

Polycystic ovary cannot be diagnosed immediately based on the condition of follicles. Every woman only ovulates one egg per month, but there is more than one follicle.

It is not what you understand as how many are normal. Simply put, the ovarian follicles are very small, there is no dominant follicle, and these follicles are all crowded in the ovary and cannot ovulate. This is the principle of polycystic ovary causing infertility.

Whether it is polycystic ovary should be judged in combination with the results of six hormones.

Diagnostic criteria for polycystic ovary syndrome:

1. Abnormal menstruation (infrequent, scanty, amenorrhea, dysfunctional uterine bleeding);

2. The patient has not used hormones in the past three months, and the blood hormone levels of the dominant follicles found on the 2nd to 4th day of menstruation or at the end of menopause (B) are: luteinizing hormone (LH)/follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)> 2 and (or) testosterone (T)> 2.2nmol/L and (or) androstenedione (A)> 9.0nmol/L;

3. Ultrasound examination shows that the number of ovarian follicles on one or both sides is greater than 10, with a diameter of 2-8 mm;

4. Rule out other androgen-increasing diseases such as hyperprolactinemia, thyroid disease, Cushing's syndrome, etc.

Ovarian cysts depend on their size and whether they have a pedicle. If the cyst is large, it may cause compression symptoms of the surrounding tissues. If the pedicle is twisted, it may lead to acute abdomen and should be treated surgically in time. If the cyst is small and does not grow fast after dynamic review, it can be observed and no treatment is needed for the time being.

Suggestions: Ovarian cysts may cause lower abdominal pain, leucorrhea with an unpleasant odor, etc. Avoid stress, get enough rest and keep warm to avoid catching cold. The diet should be light and spicy food should be avoided.
