What causes amniotic fluid contamination?

During pregnancy checkups, we often hear doctors say that the pregnant woman's amniotic fluid is contaminated. Many people are unfamiliar with this concept. Amniotic fluid contamination means that there are too many impurities in the amniotic fluid in your body. Will your fetus be affected? Unable to absorb nutrients normally? In fact, amniotic fluid contamination is divided into degrees, and mild amniotic fluid contamination is normal. So, what are the general causes of amniotic fluid contamination?

1. Reasons

Fetal fecal contamination:

The fetus also has excretion function in the mother's body in the later stage, and the meconium is discharged into the amniotic fluid, which will pollute the amniotic fluid. If the amniotic fluid pollution reaches level 3, the fetus will be in distress in the amniotic fluid and may die in the womb at any time. Meconium usually appears in women who are about to give birth, so pregnant women don't need to worry too much.

Vernix caseosa contamination:

If the fetus is immature or too large before 39 weeks, the vernix caseosa will float in the amniotic fluid. This vernix caseosa will mix with the amniotic fluid and cause some contamination to the fluid, although the vernix caseosa will not harm the fetus.

Cholestasis:

There are some impurities in the amniotic fluid, such as fetal hair and brittle hair. These things accumulate in the amniotic fluid and will pollute the amniotic fluid, which is also the main cause of amniotic fluid pollution. Pregnant women can usually detect this during B-ultrasound examinations. If the amniotic fluid is turbid, it means the fetus is in a very dangerous condition.

Viral infection, older pregnant women:

Virus infection during pregnancy is also the main cause of amniotic fluid contamination. In addition, the chance of amniotic fluid contamination in older mothers is higher than that in mothers of appropriate age, because older mothers are more likely to suffer from diabetes, gestational hypertension, anemia, etc. during pregnancy.

2. What are the effects of amniotic fluid pollution?

pneumonia:

Babies whose amniotic fluid is contaminated are most susceptible to pneumonia. The fetal heart rate will be abnormal and may also cause suffocation. If the contaminated amniotic fluid is inhaled by the baby, neonatal aspiration pneumonia may occur.

The baby starts talking late:

Some pollutants in the amniotic fluid may enter the baby's blood, circulate in the baby's blood, stimulate the brain, poison the baby's brain nerve cells, and affect the normal brain development. Poor brain development causes slow development of the language center, and in severe cases is accompanied by stuttering symptoms.

The baby has poor emotional communication:

Because amniotic fluid contamination may affect the baby's nerve center, the baby's receptive ability during the growth and development process may be lower than that of normal children, such as the baby's emotions, behavior, IQ, etc. These children may be more likely to develop autism.
